  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Kinor - Russian 4K Digital Cinema Camera

It pops up infrequently.

There are also a bunch of others out there.

Most have less of a workflow than RED. RED actually works quite well, it only can get better :)

What's hurting them, if it's all true, is a site that doesn't really presen a strong image. I know on some level this may not be important, or what always sells, but our industry thrives on showmanship, which RED has, 50000 fps or not. :)

They do have a photo on the site with a guy on set with their 2k camera. Still though, looks sort of underwhelming to me. Interesting, though, thanks for sharing!

Competition, the driving force of a free market economy. They need better marketing and public relations, but HDR on the fly! That is quite impressive. Oh btw sorry for having this question up in this post but what is the Tstop range of the Red? I know its like 2 and a half steps less than 35mm celluloid. So now REDcode is the only revolutionary aspect left that is particular to Red with this thing out there? or am I underestimating. I wonder if it is as modular as the Red. Also can some technically savvy person here compare the Red, from hardware specs to Post workflow, to the Kinor. I am an appreciator of good will. :). Still love the Red and the guys that run it, even if their not so 'revolutionary' anymore, for incorporating our needs into the camera.

I just want to offer a different perspective on this.

For me showmanship is hollow. Being in the film and advertising business has taught me not to take everything at face value.

Remember how in awe you were of that big corporation before you did a documentary for them? After getting to know people who run those corporations you realize they are just like you.

Companies like Kinor may not be your flashy types but I bet you, they have Russian equivalents of Jim and Graeme and all other geniuses at RED. If you don't believe me call Jarredsky on...

The movie and TV producers in Russia use Sony and Panasonic.
I never heard of this thing in Russia as of last week.
I do not know of anyone in Moscow who has heard about anything like this.

Can they do it?
If Jim can put together a 4K camera with OEM parts, may be some Russian can do the same.

But, is it real?
For me, it is not realistic. The address under "contact" is an apartment building.

I don't know about their recent improvements, but last year at IBC they had a camera working... or at least it looked like!
 
I have requested a price list and got it in 5 minutes, so their website might suck, but their reps are pretty good! :biggrin:

The KINOR DC2K sells for 9900.00€ (around 14,100.00$)...

What is really interesting about them also is they sell Elite lenses... They are brilliant and MUCH cheaper than Cooke... :greedy:
