  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Kinefinity MAVO Edge

It seems the "Regular Base" (800 ISO) range is from ISO 200 to 1280 and the "High Base" (3200 ISO) range is from ISO 1600 to 20480.

The body is made of both Carbon Fiber and Aluminum Alloy.

For what it's worth, Kinefinity is claiming a 12ms scan in Full Frame and 9ms when in S35 mode.

That sounds workable.

Everyone and their mother seems to be coming out with an 8K compact camera!

Same story as with megapixel hype in DSLRs.
Pixel number sells more cameras than highlight performance.

That company copied ZCam, btw.
Literally. Asked their camera for testing > copy.
Moral compass = crap

Thanks Rand.

Crazy specs in such a small, lightweight and gorgeous body. Hats off to Kinefity.

If it wasn't for brand recognition, I would probably pass Komodo and buy Mavo Edge instead.
However, in my world clients still demand either Arri or RED.

I truly hope Kinefity can work to get higher market penetration and brand awareness. Maybe they should send production units to accredited DPs around the globe before launch.

@RED, I love my Helium and it is still going strong. I have amortised my purchase twice within 3 years. I like to call Helium as my cash cow :-)
But the tech world is moving very fast. Hope you have something cool coming on the horizon...

Yeah, in the article from Newssshooter, they make the observation of how it resembled the Z-cam,. But to do that, damn, that's really messed up!

And you're welcome again man!

If you buy an Edge, I'll be happy to test and rent it ;-)

I bet you do, Pat :-)
As I said, if Kinefity has better brand recognition and likely be more accepted by clients, productions, studios etc. I would buy the Edge without a blink.
This can change in the near future though.

BTW, Schweizervideo in Zurich will have the Mavo Edge for sale. I am sure they will have a demo unit for test purposes once it is available.

Except images from Kine are far more organic then Zcam.

That statement wasn't referring to Kine but Skyworth, chinese TV maker. Check the link Rand posted.

Ho Lee Fuk, I'm buying at least one. Wish they woulda went with new open standard LPL mount....and hope they do a AB batt option.

An adaptable mount system like they have is a better idea, IMO. You'll have the option to do LPL where others might rather do PL, EF, or E. Sure it might not screw down to the camera body like RED does, but if it's a strong breech-lock then it should be plenty solid. Very similar to Sony's FZ mount.

Yup, looks like the exact same lenses with different colored lettering.

There's plenty of info out there about the history of these

I'll need to test the final production models of the primes. The prototypes at Keslow, specifically the 25mm had me wondering about some stuff. Need to do a proper test of coverage. Their area of illumination might be 46.5mm, but they were designed with an image circle of 43.3mm when I chatted with the OG Bokkehlux team.

I was surprised to see that kinefinity also have a set of 5 full frame prime lenses that cover a 46.5mm image circle.

YES I looked at these at NAB. Tim Daust and myself gave them a good run through.

I thought they where pretty interesting. They seemed to have some dimension that lifted the subject from the BG, had a nice sharp look but
not too sharp or "crispy".
They all seemed to display some "swirly" Bokeh.
Just playing on the show floor really doesn't tell you everything,. but I wouldn't mind trying them.

Phil, curious on your thoughts.

Curtis

Thanks for providing yours and Tim's initial impressions of these lenses Curtis!
