  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

An other fun project done... My first Fashion Film with a crew and a budget with my good friend Stefano Spiti AIC Imago as my DoP... :)

Here few BTS pics, few more I'll post as I can...

WOW that pool shoot would give my safety guys apoplexy!

Ketch,

Those behind the scenes pics look awesome! Can't wait to see some more of the project! Congrats!

Perhaps Ketch likes to use hairdryers while soaking in the bath?

Ha ha...

While this particular Pool set up was done in a time crunch...

SAFETY was very well observed, the main Power Box outside the pool directly hardwired to the Generator, was shot down and turned on on commend when every one was set in place, and a commend was given for NO one to enter or go about the set once the Power was on...

However I must still admit that while some do call me adrenaline junky on some of my shootings, especially when hanging form Helicopters and such... This time I had a NOT so easy filling about this all thing while moving about this pool area, and also while shooting the night scenes outdoor under the rain with 30k worth of light with cables going thru the grass next to my very feet... But worst was for the Girl playing the piano naked with her naked foot on the grass... So there we had a guy standing under each of the 12k, 6k 4k which were on the cross path of were there was more traffic of people coming and going... When we shot the horse scenes at night, well that was an entire different story... :)

Ketch,

Those behind the scenes pics look awesome! Can't wait to see some more of the project! Congrats!

Thanks Rome,

This been my first Fashion Film with a decent budget were an almost full crew was hired, brought a nice fresh filling of actually been in a real production, vs. the Fashion Films and Shorts I have been doing solo with zero budget, aside the Skydive Dubai 2012 4k project which at list it had a small crew and a small budget but it had it nonetheless...

This I can say it will be my Fashion Film of pride, and of course having my good friend Stefano Spiti, working as DoP give me more time to concentrate on the Creative Directing side of things, even so I ended up been is First AC and Camera Tech since I didn't any one touch our beloved and revered DragonM8... :)

But yeah, looking forward to bring this one out, even so it won't be "SFW" as while there is NO full front nudity ever shown, there is Breast and Gluteus showing in few Scene of the Film.

There might be a Première Presentation party showing it 4k in NY, but I won't say anything yet about it as I don't have yet details of it, and if I'll be able to invite fellow Reduser to come, but what I know is that it will be at our very good friend's place and Executive Producer of this Project, Pier59... :)

Sweet looking BTS, Ketch. Looking forward to the real deal! - if ever possible.

David, how would one go about it and do it safer if not lighting it is not an option. I haven't done lighting setups so close to water yet.

Thanks Patrick!

Yeah, this Film will be out early next year, just not sure yet how we'll go about... But it will be out no doubt... :)

I wasn't suggesting that Ketch's guys didn't do a safe setup... just that if I showed my safety folks that scene they'd have gotten very wound up (and it'd have taken days of planning just for the safety work). I'm sure they'd want GFCI's everywhere, and in this case they may just tell me I can't use lights that aren't compatible with circuit interrupters. Any lights over water that has a person in it would cause all sorts of problems... they'd probably ask me if I could do it with a bounce instead of directly lit. Luckily for me... my work is always indoors (no wet grass to deal with) and has not involved water - the primary safety hazards I deal with are broken (breaking) glass, mechanical motion, and heat. On the downside... my subjects aren't nearly as lovely!

Don't worry David,

The lighting for this project was handled by a small team of Electrician thru a Gaffer with over 200 Films in his belt, and the DP my friend Stefano, knew well what He was doing as far as light, I also of course was very happy with the light we got, and there was on other way to get to be able to penetrate the water in the way we needed for the under water shots in slow motion a with a 1/1000's shutter,
we ended up been very happy with the final results, and it was safe, as I said, people allowed in and out or about were very limited and controlled to when the lights were on or off the switch, meaning without power going thru the cables, additional as you can see form the BTS pics we had the entire pool area completely cleared out of anything any one could accidentally trip in to.

But I do get were you are coming form... :)

Pool Scene: Don't get so excited Safety Sams . . . unlike what you have been told all your life - water is a poor conductor of electricity.

It's not the water itself... it's what's in the water. Distilled water doesn't conduct (because it has no free ions to transport charge)... tap water does - as does most 'water' that people will come in contact with. Anyone working with electricity around water needs to be very careful (google pool electrocution). As Ketch indicated... a power cord on a wet lawn can be the source of a shock (I know this one first hand).

I'm not exactly the safety sam... but working for a company that is serious about keeping their people safe lets me predict what the safety team will say when I talk to them about a project.

I take safety pretty seriously, even so it's coming form a guy that regularly hangs outside an Helicopter going full speed and making crazy turns at several thousands feet of high...

Even here I usually Double Strap, both my self with Monkey Strapping and the gear in my hands, insuring that thing falls OFF the chopper...

This case was no different, while having a Had Gaffer and Electrician on the team, I insured, even so been the Director, I acted as co-producer and tucked Safety pretty seriously as I always do, and insured everything was done accordingly to what I saw proper enough and safe enough for every one and my self...

Having experienced personally Death and resuscitation... Plus several other unfortunate events in myeline, I think I prefer to avoid anything bad happening while under my control...

Enough shit does happen to us which is completely out of our control, so the list we can do is make sure we do all that we can so that nothing happens while under our control.

And yes, still very sad about the "Midnight Rider" tragedy... And while i didn't need that as reminder to do things as safely as humanly possible, and or only take calculated risks for my self or let them take only to those Professionals that completely understand what they are doing and that they are trained to do, "Midnight Rider" sure has moved me more so to do even more of what is possible to insure the safety of all on any SET!!

Thanks for the reminder Donald... I am also happy to say that I and my Talent, we participate with a pledge via a photo of our group in the shoot of Venice. (No other crew since I did that project completely myself as a Test)

After the Midnight Rider crew death I'm surprised to hear Safety Sam thrown about.

I'll bet the Movie business is one of the safest in the world. The clothes your wearing right now, that were made in some far off country, or that computer you're using to type on . . . not so much. In fact the average American indirectly employees something like 75 slaves by what they consume. Like I said at the time of the Sarah Jones death: "if you're truly concerned about worker safety - then let's talk about all industry and the diminishing voice of the worker and their basic human rights - not just the self interest of Hollywood movie staff (which is alreadt extremely well looked after as a class of workers)"

Looks like an awesome shoot Ketch. Can't wait to see the footie

On this I have to agree with Zeb, sad to say but true, I don't only do business in the Film Industry, as in fact this is only my passion, and my Businesses are far different then this one, and far diverse form each other, and safety is tragically ridiculously almost none existent!!

Thanks Zeb... Continuing to work my rear off to put all my knowledge in to Experience, as I have learned the hard way it is far from been the same thing... But I hope one day I'll have made enough experience form my knowledge as to allow me to make my First Motion Picture with the results I expect to have for the deserving nature of the chosen subjects of my Stories, and their incredibly important messages that they carry with in them.

maybe I'm old school but I'd at least lock off the wheels of the lights inches away from pool and throw some weight on.

Not old school at all in this regard, as it should have been the way to do it, but unfortunately they didn't bring enough Sand Bags, and the few ones they had, were occupied elsewhere as we had multiple sets running thru out all 6 days of shooting and those Sand Bags were prioritized, so the lights in the pool was in turn closely guarded indoor and outdoor, before, during and after each take.

Just about the last BTS shot of this last Fashion Film I am afraid... I guess our on set Photographer didn't do a good job at all on this one... But He was also the DIT and third Camera shooter... So I guess He is forgiven, my fault for not having realized his position sooner, and not having arranged for a dedicated on set BTS Photographer...

Oh, please don't mind my DoP, I asked him if posting pics with nudes to hide it, not turning our Model in to a "Michelin"... :)
