  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KETCH ROSSi

Hi Andreas,

as you might have noticed I have mounted the accessories on the Epic cameras I have worked with in a thousand different ways, and this is why I truly love the modularity of the Epic, you can fit it as needed as per job requirements.

In the case you mentioned of the set up as shown in the picture below, what I did, was remove the Rosette Piece entirely and then screw in the LCD bracket on to the handle suing 3 Red Bolts.

In this configuration the LCD seats high enough to clear the Top Handle for a 360º allowing its view from every angle, yet it seats closer to the operator and leaves more free room over the lens, making it my new favorite way of mounting it, also since this is the 9" LCD mounted this way allows it to be used also by the foucs puller when needed, then back to the operator for playback as needed.

Hiya Ketch!
Yea I really like the modularity too. Its just getting more and more fun as we get more things. I think it looks like a better setup than with the rosetta since the rosetta setup makes it a bit more front heavy, and it's front heavy to begin with. I will try it out.
I notice you have the top plate. How useful is it do you think? I haven't gotten it yet, but it looks pretty convinient. When you work do you normally use the electronic viewfinder?

Interesting to see your setups as always!
/Andreas

Definitely fun, good part of it is that once you tried and found what you like you simply sale what you don't and keep the good stuff... ;)

I always have the Top Plate on, I have tried them all, and like the Red Pro Top Plate the best and that is what stays fixed on permanently on the camera now.

There are few times that I don't use the Viewfinder, every other time I always must have it, and when I don't always missed, but now thanks to the +1 Module, I'll never miss it again, while also having the LCD, which I can't do without either, especially the 9", love this size LCD!!

My next set up I'll showcase will be the full Cine Set Up I'll be using for a while on "R o a B" during the entire last phase of Pre-Production, Location and Talent scouting in Rome, Modena Venice and Milan.

It wil be a full set up yet very light, since I sold my Master Primes along with just about everything else to finance the start of the film, and many will be very suprise to see what lenses I ended up with.

Indeed Tom, got the set of Rokinon Cine EF mount, and we'll be shooting my first short Film in the next weeks with the all set, 14mm, 24mm, 35mm and 85mm+ a special 10+Diopter.

Holy shit a 10+ diopter? Zowsers! Most I got is a +4 I think.

Hiya Ketch. Very interesting. How are the Rokinon compared to the Red Primes? Do you do hand held shots with the setup above or is it only on tripod?
Going to be very interesting to see your short movie Ketch!
Best,
Andreas

Whatever it takes to get the film made!

Go get it...

Thanks guys, always truly appreciated the support here!!

Well, as Jim says... Everything changes, and for me it seems a given, unfortunately as of lately financially has always been for the worst, in that recent post "Apologies" i made it clear that I trusted too much few signatures of most likely good intentioned investors with simply not enough guts to actually go thru with it, but I also understand were we continue to be headed in the financial times we are in, especially in Europe.

So after having all my dreams shattered, and all projects form the smallest to the biggest just disappear in front of me I decided to fight back with all that I can... So I did.

I have been selling form the largest to the smallest, form the most expensive to the list expensive pieces of gear that I don't need right now, or that can be replaced, so to have funds to start my corporation, and finance my first movie "R. O. A. B.", at list as much as I can, with the goal of finding support, possibly also via Kickstarter as I move on to get it finish as it deserves, and as for the lenses that is what I also did, I went form Master Primes, just about the most expensive set there is, to just about the cheapest set there is.

At the end what has become clear to me, is not that I have the world's best lenses to make my film, or that I have the 30Million dollars to make it, with money any one can should be able to make a decent Movie and not so hard either...

I guess if I fill so passionate and good about my capacity as a Filmmaker, I should be able to make a great movie even with such cheap lenses, I do still have the world's best cinema camera, and that is already a huge advantage, so I don't complain, I just tucked a big glass of water and swallowed my pride and need for the best of the best on anything especially Glass, and said to my self, better make your movie with what glass you can afford then not make one at all...

This is my last show of "P E R S E V E R A N C E"and if any one out there things that just because I got no money to show for, I'll simply stop pursuing my dreams, they are surely WRONG, my dreams are stronger then ever, and my first Film is about to get started...

Wait for the first short to come soon...

No, thank you for your support an kind words Matt!!

A new wave of Filmmakers and Distribution platforms is approaching, and they don't take shit form any one!!

Hollywood be warned... ;)

Wow, very inspiring Ketch!
I also had some unpleasant things happen to me professionally, being pushed aside very recently, and I'm gearing up courage and strength to kick ass on my own instead. Very inspiring to read your post. It sounds like you have absolutely made the very right decision. Kicking ass and not giving up no matter what happens are the traits of a true winner I believe.
Master prime or not I feel happy for you. Best of luck, not that you need it ;)

Best
/Andreas

Ketch, keep us inform on a possible Kickstarter avenue and we'll make sure to spread the news like wildfire!

Thanks Dennys, that is exactly what will be needed!!

I'll be starting a new thread in the coming weeks to actually try and put together a Pre-Team for this project, and with them create the Kickstarter campaign and try and see whom I can bring to Italy at what point to help shoot the Movie.

Most likely I'l be filming a Short of it first, so to have also that to put in the Kickstarter campaign to further strengthen the message and give a chance to see what the actual Film will look like.

I have also reached out to our friend Vincent Laforet, and see if we can involve him as well and the Mōvi, to shoot a particular opening scene were the Villain takes a large Suit-case down a ramp of stairs and the case falls off his hands and tumbles down the stairs, braking half open and letting a female's arm out... & continues on as He descends the stairs...

Been that this is now the most important project I'l have ever done in my life, it will get my undivided attention 1000% and I'll hope and look forward in receiving all the assistance that I can in any way it can be afforded to be given by the people in this fantastic community... ;)

I'd focus on the story rather than shots to highlight certain equipments. Let us know how it goes with Vincent I'm sure he would be delighted to work on such a project.

You are right Ash, and the focus has always been on the story since I first wrote the Screenplay 5 years ago.

Now is just no longer a choice of choosing the equipment, since I sold it or leased out all, and I am self financing it all, to start with.

As for the thinking on the Mōvi, is because with just that single small piece of gear, I can eliminate entirely the need of a Jib, Crane, and Steadicam at once for that particular shot, that is if Vincent can come and a unit of the Mōvi is available to fly to Italy for few a day or two in the shooting of this short.
