  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Keeps on climbing......

RED cameras are built out of poisons. Don't just throw one away!

The difference being that with solar (or RED) you have a finished working unit doing it's purpose, in this case collecting energy, without any more pollution, unlike others which pollute in every new cycle of energy creation.

Not quite the same...

"I can't possibly imagine that BP is trying to set a record for going from the world's most profitable company in history to bankrupcy in less than 12 months. Therefore I can only assume that they are employing any and every means at their disposal including the engineers they ignored for the sake of profit in the past to mitigate the crisis and minimize their liability."

Assumption is based on:

a) the assumption that prolonged oil leak will cause BP bankruptcy;
b) the assumption that crisis is undesired.

For example, BP chairman is totally into it.

As for voting for nuclear and promoting its safety. Okay. Opinion respected.

And we're talking about radioactive products which will be inert within 150 years or so and mostly inert within 50. Those are the kinds of timelines we can handle.

Cool. I'll take that as volunteering to keep the waste @ your place.

You can have a gazillion in potential revenue, you still go bankrupt if your shares fall to zero.

why would your shares fall to zero if you have a gazillion dollars in revenue?

BPs stock will bounce back after people get bored with the gusher..sad but true

b) the assumption that crisis is undesired.

BP wanted a crisis to clamp down government regulation on them?

Oh please. There are conspiracy theories and then there are just stupid theories.

"Hey guys, let's destroy the environment, invite massive litigation and regulation as well as kill our stock value!"

If BP executives had all shorted stock. The month before you would have a case. But that didn't happen so they only lose from the deal.

BPs stock will bounce back after people get bored with the gusher..sad but true

Yep. Which is why I plan on buying a bunch of it. People are short sighted. I guess I might as well profit. :D

Pretty much... As soon as they announce the successful drilling of one of those relief wells, you can bet stock will surge up a bit.

What I'm worried about is the capping of the current gusher. As more info has finally made it out and now that the government is finally talking to other engineering firms about solutions, it's not looking very pretty. BP was too tight-lipped for too long and the situation is now a lot more severe than what we all thought. I'm really confused as to why only two relief wells are being drilled as each relief well only has about a 25% chance of successfully relieving any pressure.

What concerns me is there's evidence now that the collapse of nearly 1 mile of pipe under that oil platform has severely damaged the well and well casing below the BOP and why the well was not simply crimped off and why BP seemed to panic when their saw was temporarily stuck and blocked much of the oil flow. Pressure at the blow out point is still estimated at approximately 13000psi and holding steady. People like to talk about this amount of pressure as if it's something huge. And it is a very large amount of force blowing out of that pipe for sure, but it's actually well within normal operating parameters and if in shallower water would not be that big of challenge to cap off, even without the relief wells. To me it seems that there's a lot more going on than what BP and our federal government are willing to tell us at this point.

Worst case scenario is that both relief wells fail and the existing leak continues to degrade and the casing below the BOP ultimately fails. There are an estimated 2.6 billion barrels of oil in this deposit and current estimates claim that an unchecked leak from this deposit could reach over 120,000 barrels per day. At that rate and left un-checked, it would take nearly 60 years for this oil deposit to deplete itself.

I just hope at least one of the relief wells are successful and this leak can be plugged at the well head. If indeed the casing and/or well are compromised beneath the BOP, it's only a matter of time before that fails catastrophically and enough of the well erodes away along with the surrounding sea bed and we have an all out hemorrhage leading to a truly unstoppable leak. An all-out hemorrhage, could open a much larger leak if the well itself does not hold. Makes one wonder what happens if over a billion barrels worth of oil suddenly flooded our gulf in a matter of weeks or even days.

Worst case scenario is that both relief wells fail and the existing leak continues to degrade and the casing below the BOP ultimately fails.

If people ignore all the Obama and BP bashing for a moment it's got to be apparent this leak is not going to be controlled. If these guys could throw 10 Billion dollars at it today and stop it they would.

They don't know how to fix it.

Or - if you're an Illuminati conspiracy theorist "they don't WANT to fix it". Which... sorta makes sense when you consider they have massive wealth far beyond the trivial billions BP may lose and one of their theorized goals is depopulation.

Don't 1/3 of the seas turn to blood and 1/3 of the sea creatures die in Revelations?

Not sure I'd be betting on the relief wells working. Just sayin'.

So if BP's stock is losing value that money must be going some where it doesn't just disappear

so who's short selling BP's stock into the dirt?

same thing when the recession first hit ..the short selling was so bad they had to stop all short selling

wall street was driving banks into the ground while sucking up their value.

maybe someone is making to much money ..it is a sure thing that BP's value will dive

so all those pensions are getting sucked dry by the short sellers

I'm not getting BP stock. Not cool dudes.
... and Jeff is right. Things can always get aloooot worse.

Not talking about stock buys or sells... the article just says that the doomsday scenario everyone was painting has disappeared in a very short time.

They can't find the oil because the dispersants sank it to the bottom of the ocean.
IMO

100 million gallons does not just dissapear

We have no idea what those chemicals will do in the long run but i guess we will find out the hard way

ABC news reported tonight that microbes are apparently what has caused the oil to dissappear. They also state that the microbes eat the dispersant as well, and that because the dispersant was used, the microbes can eat the oil faster because it was in smaller droplets. As stated, the toxic chemicals are very volatile and evaporated immediately, and approximately 40 percent of the oil may have evaporated due to the higher winds during two tropical storms.

This causes me great concern. What if a foreign power drops a lot of these microbes in oil storage tanks located around the nation? We are screwed.

microbes are believed to have caused most of the great mass extinctions on this planet.... don't mess with microbes.
I think they are at the top of the food chain:sneaky2:

Interesting article.

a scientist with the environmental group Oceana, told the New York Times that as much as 40 percent of the oil might have evaporated when it reached the surface. High winds from two recent storms may have speeded the evaporation process.

Perhaps the most important cause of the oil’s disappearance, some researchers suspect, is that the oil has been devoured by microbes.

Typically, there are enough microbes in the ocean to consume half of any oil spilled in a month or two, says Howarth.
This statement is especially ridiculous, both scientifically and logically.

The controversial dispersant used to break up the oil as it gushed from the deep-sea well may have helped the microbes do their work.

I'm guessing that there is a part 2. of the article which scientifically proves that dropped oxygen levels in the Gulf are nothing to be concerned about, that marine life has suffered minimal losses, that all oil will be taken care of, that microbes eating oil do not present another risk to marine life in any way, that there is no chance of oil spreading into Atlantic and that life balance in the Gulf is returning to normal.

This time without formulations such as: "may be","might be","perhaps" or "some suspect".

I don't know, Dr. Simic, they are quoting scientists like yourself, I think.

Either the article or the ABC newscast, can't remember which one, said that the absence of oxygen "proves" the microbes are working in large numbers because they work aerobically (in an oxygen environment) and therefore are sucking up all the oxygen in order to pac-man the oil. They also went on to say that 28,000 birds were covered in oil and only about half of them died. In the Exxon Valdez spill over a quarter of a million birds died. But Gulf waters are warm and microbially friendlier than the colder waters of Alaska. Not only that, but oil has been leaking naturally in the Gulf since before man, and those microbes, which are found in all the oceans of the world, have had time to adapt to eating oil voraciously when there is a plentiful supply of it for food.

I'm not saying oil is good or bad. (Personally, I want a windmill). What I am saying, don't be biased toward information based on your gut. Follow the science. And this is coming from the NEWS MEDIA, who are naturally inclined to paint gloomy pictures.

Go visit the Gulf states. It is safe.

Elsie, my comment is directed to the article, not to you personally. I understood what you meant and thank you for the additional clarification. No disrespect meant in any way.

I wouldn't take this as a serious proof of catastrophe being avoided, though.

IMO just leave out the "gloomy".

Sorry, I may have over reacted and you are right to be skeptical. It's just that not enough people were skeptical during the reporting of the disaster and many good people have lost their livelihood, not due to the oil per sae, but to the fear instilled in people about the spill. I think it was the Governor of Mississippi who stated on one of the newsmagazines that the press was doing more damage to Mississippi than the oil. And in Louisiana, a state whose economy is dependent in part on oil drilling in the Gulf has lost who knows how many jobs because the public mob has been whipped to a frenzy against oil drilling in the Gulf. These are real people who are not employed and are not likely to be employable in another profession.

Let me just say that it is widely recognized that BP is the single greatest offender in the oil industry when it comes to safety... more violations by far than all the other oil companies combined. They should suffer the consequences of their negligence.

I'm just hoping that my posting links to articles such as this one will go a little ways toward undoing the bad publicity that a very tranquil people and places have been subjected to.

Now, having said that... BOO Alabama Crimson Tide!
