Has anyone else had trouble keeping their Redmote charged up? Apparently, the amount of time I spend with the battery on the camera, powered up and rolling, is not enough to keep the Redmote charged. What type of battery is inside the Redmote? Lithium Ion? Any tips on keeping it charged? Right now, I am basically having to take the Redmote off and charge it via USB on my laptop every couple of days.

If I keep my V-Lock battery on my Epic, will it drain down over several days? When I put the battery on, I can see a green light on the side of my Epic.

Improved charge/discharge performance will be coming over the next few fw builds of the redmote.

I fully charged mine via USB and it was fully drained after a week of non-use. I am using it more now, so I am charging via USB before taking it out. Would be nice if I could dim the display while it was charing via USB.

How is the FW in the redmote updated? Is it a separate install from the camera?

Good to hear. Is this Lithium Ion?

If I leave a V-Lock block plugged in to the camera, how much draining of the battery is going on? Obviously, a little bit, because it actually powers the green light on the side of the Epic. Will the Redmote keep itself charged?

The REDmote only charges when the camera is on.

Tom - I got my REDMOTE about a month or 2 ago - charged it up when I got it - via USB - played around with it - then put it back into a Pelican and did not touch it until a few days ago - and when I tried to turn it on - it was completely dead - when I tried to charge it - won't take a charge - it seems battery has gone completely flat - and it's so weird - because it was turned off and set to the "Lock" position - put it in storage - in a hard-cased storage unit - then month later - it's dead - I can understand that maybe the battery drained - BUT - super weird that now it won't accept any charge from the camera or USB - seems is f*cked - any ideas? It's brand new - still has LCD sticker on it. How's yours working? Thanks - ABC

Deanan: Good question from Tom...is the battery LiIon or Nickel Metal Hyrdryde? (spelling?) If Nickel.....then it likely needs to be charged monthly regardless of use......Can you give us a heads upon the type of battery ? I know i should go to the manual......i'm a lazy bastard tonight.....

Should we be performing regular charge cycles so that the battery does not die?....that's horrible. Discharge and loose it's memory.....ok, equally horrible thought.

Andy brings up a valid point....this is common of NiMH batteries....if you don't keep them charged on a regualar basis...then regardless of the non-use....it will slowly discharge and loose potency.....

Hi Tom and Deanan,

I've also had trouble keeping my Redmote charged up. It seems there is still a drainage problem even when you've charged it up fully and turn it off. It should stay charged like most devices for more than a week, one would think. I worry that
because of this, the battery may not last very long over time and if you forget to charge it or go on holidays, you have something that doesn't work anymore? Hope the firmware upgrade can fix this or perhaps a better battery is in the works.

We should get it in to have it looked at. I'd rather not speculate first
as to why it's not charging.

Lots of work is still being done to improve redmote's usablity.
We'll have more updates as firmware continues to evolve.

How long will a fully charged redmote last on set if it's being used to control the camera?

Is there away to charge the REDmote while it's powered off? I've got one charging via USB cable now and wondering if I can at least turn the screen off while charging.

You can turn the screen brightness all the way down via Setup (F3), Setup System:, adjust brightness slider. The screen is still powered, but at least at min brightness.

I think it will, albeit slowly. There was a thread recently about REDVOLT longevity being c 3-4 days if kept in the side-handle, as the red LED beside the main brain power switch stayed on. The same LED stays on with a V-Lock attached, so assuming current drain is the same ( the revolt loses c. 1% /hr of a 30 Wh battery) then I would expect a 90Wh V-Lock to last 3 x longer -ie 9-12 days.

Any update to this? Does the RedMote HAVE to be physically on to charge? Is there any indication that it's charging when it's off? And the manual says there should be a green light but when plugged into my macbook (any of the 3 USB ports) nothing happens. This is with the Red supplied USB cable. Thoughts?
