  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Keeping Redmote Charged?

Tom - I got my REDMOTE about a month or 2 ago - charged it up when I got it - via USB - played around with it - then put it back into a Pelican and did not touch it until a few days ago - and when I tried to turn it on - it was completely dead - when I tried to charge it - won't take a charge - it seems battery has gone completely flat - and it's so weird - because it was turned off and set to the "Lock" position - put it in storage - in a hard-cased storage unit - then month later - it's dead - I can understand that maybe the battery drained - BUT - super weird that now it won't accept any charge from the camera or USB - seems is f*cked - any ideas? It's brand new - still has LCD sticker on it. How's yours working? Thanks - ABC
I have faith that RED can resolve the range issue, but ... the non user-replaceable battery really bothers me.

It's one thing if you own an iPhone and can take it to your local store - it's quite another to have to ship the unit back. Sooner or later, you've got a few days of downtime.

I'd really appreciate a design where

2. the battery could be user-replaced
2. the battery could be physically disconnected by turning it off.

A Li-Ion battery is never "disconnected". It always needs a tiny amount of current for its internal protection circuit.
But I know what you mean. :wink5:

I have a Li-Ion battery for my Canon camera that I rarely use.

I always remove it from the camera and it always seems to stay charged.

Popped the battery in yesterday, and it worked like a charm, and had been several weeks since I'd last used it?

It's an older camera, so maybe battery technology has changed - but that's what I'd like to be able to do with the Redmote.

Mine does not loose a charge while in the off mode. At least for several weeks it does not loose a charge. Have not tested over months as I use it every so often.

Is there a charging indicator? I'm new to the redmote and trying to find comfort in knowing it is charging before I go to bed.

I've plugged mine into my computer via USB and into the wall with an adapter-USB connection, as I would a phone or an ipod. Nothing is indicating a charge... When I turn it on, there is nothing indicating charge either.

Should I just trust that it is charging? I don't want to unpack the epic for tomorrows shoot and leave it running just to charge the dang redmote.

Thanks in advance!

BTW - FYI - it only charges when turned on.

Ok how long on average does it take for the REDmote take to fully charge?

Also, how do you roll back the firmware? I can't seem to download the earlier version from RED, it wont dl correctly and ends up in an endless unzipping cycle. Anyone help me with this?
