  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Keeping it 12 bit

8 bit does not ever show banding unless graded, or unless the signal is bent through a LUT box operating in 8 bit space (which is just like grading it) . Cheap 8 bit monitors show banding, as they are less than 8 bit, at least in some parts of the range, as are many plasmas. Your eye cannot see beyond what an (ungraded) 8 bit image offers, if properly displayed.

Try to project an 8 bit image in a theater-size screen and tell me that no banding will be visible.

Luis, we do that here every day. No banding, ever. The problem is your projector, your 10-8bit conversion process or how your image was handled beforehand. Many 8bit cameras have lots of banding, right in the source material DSLRs but that's because of poor camera technology.

Theater size makes no difference, it's field of view that matters, and staring at a computer screen the field of view of the image is actually larger than in typical theater seat - it's like sitting in the very closest front rows, which are rarely occupied.
