  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

JUSTIFIED shot on EPIC

Curious. Where did you see it? I am assuming regular cable? I didn't see any noise myself, but I will revisit it.

This was actually on Dish so I know I can't trust what I'm seeing but I was comparing it to some of the scenes from last season and it didn't seem to have that same noise in the under exposed areas which is what made me curious. Overall I think it looks great. Love the show and how it's lit. I'll try to find a better quality source and compare it.

The original output was spectacular. But we noticed that even last years show recently broadcast over the air (aired this year - season two of Justified) seemed over modulated. Colors were over enhanced. Shadows were pixelated. We screened a 2K version at the DGA and it was spectacular. The producers were in control. For example, the Rosco litepads didn't spike green. When it leaves our control sometimes things change. The noise you were seeing on some sets and in certain areas of the country had noise. It was not from the acquisition devise using either the Sony or Red Cameras. If you look at the recently released DVD set of season two and compare it to the on air version they're rerunning you'll see the difference. The producers and studio know where the noise is coming from and they're working to correct it. Perhaps one day all cinematographers will see the same images from start to finish. I would so love to show every Red owner how smooth and rich the blacks look. Like velvet. And the highlights hold. If anyone wants to visit with me either on the set or view a color correction session shoot me an email. I love what this camera does combined with the portability of size and weight that I want to share it with everyone. We average 9 hours of dailies a day with a ratio of nearly 24-1. That's a lot of shooting. Take care. Francis redsail@mac.com

Francis,

I am sorry to hear that there is inconsistency in the presentation, and I am impressed you and the producers are being proactive to fix it. Great work.

That is one very generous offer, Francis.
