On set. The cleanliness is retarded. The gradation of highlights is mouth watering... Shooting at 250 ISO with no penalties anywhere it seems.
Had a grip walk into a 10k beam and not burn out. Not even close..... Camera was at 800iso @ T2.8 on an ultraprime during the camera build. Mind boggling.
Hey Jarred - how long is the wait if I haven't ordered the Dragon upgrade yet?
2014 is going to be full of new and upgraded Dragons. Red's been preparing for the storm of orders.
it absolutely has anamorphic. youre a dummy. im calling you now
Would love to, but my financial situation changes all the time depending on production funding and other stuff I'm not directly involved in. I'm not currently able to put $9500 into this investment without knowing EXACTLY when I can start ROI'ing on it.
I just saw a carbon Dragon the other night at the band pro event... I played with the namorphic settings and noticed that the monitoring doesn't zoom into a 2:39 crop so the image is tiny and super stretched ... 6k seems great for anamorphic but this seems to be a limiting factor in monitoring it... Please Red give us the option to zoom in.
I have no real knowledge, but if I had to guess January and February a lot of cameras will be moving through. Things will be in full swing and predictable by March/April. By June/July you'll likely see new Dragons in stock and ready to ship, maybe even before that. That's all theory.
Wouldn't you want to use the full height of the sensor for best use of the anamorphic lenses? It's a two stage anamorphic setting now. You choose the format and the anamorphic setting you desire. You don't want to use 6K FF you want 6K 1.22/Ana to get the typical 2.37:1 anamorphic frame. Currently you can select 2X or 1.3X modes. The interesting thing is now on Epic anamorphic works with any format, so if you want to get crazy aspect ratios you can get crazy aspect ratios.
I need the scratch first! As soon as I get it, red gets it.
Wouldn't you want to use the full height of the sensor for best use of the anamorphic lenses?
Typically yes. However, if you are trying to access more frame rate options by shooting at one of the windowed resolutions (5.5K, 5K, 4K, etc...) or perhaps doing something odd like a 3:1 aspect ratio you can.
So for me personally I would mostly use the most height of the sensor and get closer to a true 4x3 anamorphic gate. So what I really need is a zoom or crop on the sensor sides or just on monitoring only so its not so tiny and you can frame appropriately... I really hope this is addressed in a future firmware.
It's addressed now, or I should say working as you want. You just were using 6K FF with anamorphic 2X, you just need to switch formats to 6K 1.22:1 and you would have what you are looking for.
Here's some Anamorphic tests we shot on Dragon about 2 months ago. In Love immediately![]()
Also it takes a fraction of the time to Black Shade vs Epic-MX. so good.
