  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Woah, now there are 8k Spherical and Anamorphic 8k sensors?! I've placed my deposit for my sensor upgrade, do I have to choose which I would like?

As I understand it, you'd be getting 8K Spherical (which can still do 8K Ana, it just crops and doesn't use the left/right edges of the sensor). The 8K Ana camera is a special model that they are making which can't do 8K HD aspect ratio and only does anamorphic.
 
Guys, when you receive your cameras please take good care of some of those D-Taps you are planing to use.


Very bad news for me today while waiting for my Mg upgrade :(


RED had to replace my IO board, for a total cost of 1760 EUR! That was a totally unexpected huge sum for me to pay.


But, well, it was my costly mistake. Plugged a D-Tap from my Ikan LCD the other way when in a rush, smoke came out of the LCD. LCD still works, but my IO board is dead :) And the cost is not pretty.


So be very careful with those D-Taps, I now understand why Jarred was so against the port for such a long time.

What a bummer!

D-taps never seemed particularly robust to me. I guess that's because they're not. :-/
 
could you post a picture what you did. I am little confused as I thought D-tap is a D shape connector that can be only plugged one way into another D opening?

I think that depends on the plug and connector. Some are a bit loose which makes them easier to plug things into, the ramifications of which are obvious. Some cables have relatively flimsy connectors on them.ere'

The results... well, that's why I prefer Lemos and XLRs for power. Especially for power, where there's quite a bit of current involved with these industrial power supplies we're working with in pro cameras.

Not all Ds are created equal. It was a D-tap from a Chinese v-mount battery that made the mistake possible.

From what I know you can't push a d-tap the wrong way on a RED plate.

Here is a picture from a D-tap splitter, the bottom one can go both ways. The top 3 ports only go in the correct way. Is the same splitter like the one made by WC that has the same problem.

Personally I wouldn't buy a BlackMagic camera, but out of curiosity I looked it... Looks like the 4.6K Mini is back to "Pre-order" status on B&H? What's up with that? I thought it was released. Or is it just that backed up?
 
I'd guess that they have 3-5x as many orders as Red had for Scarlet-W just based on price. I would honestly not be surprised if B and H had as many Ursa Mini preorders as there are Scarlet-W preorders. So my guess is that they're just swamped.
 
I was hoping to see some allocations this week as well, maybe next week hehe.
 
i have a 1/2/2016 time stamp for SW and my rep told me my estimate is probably well into the fall.

I hope not! I ordered on 1/1/2016. I called about a week ago, just to get a ballpark idea. They couldn't give me an answer, but I asked if Summer was too ambitious and they said, it shouldn't be. Can't hold that against them, but I was really hoping on that.
 
The website says if ordered now it will ship in fall. I hope we are earlier than someone who orders right now.
