  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

JJ Abrams...

Pfister

Pfister

Well, they've already committed to film/Imax for Dark Knight and this is the last one he'll do ... so that won't happen (though they could, as Jim has stressed over and over again, rerelease in 4k because of film's native resolution) ...

But I see no reason why Inception 2 can't be shot in Epic 3D. Would be amazing and possibly one of the biggest blockbusters ever :-P

If the Red team can answer this -- does JJ already have a feature planned where he will be shooting Epic?

I'm thinking that Pfister would be the tough sell on that one. While hes not extremely anti-digital, as far as I've seen, hes just so comfortable with using analog process that it would probably be very difficult to give him any strong motivation to switch over.

Plus he's pretty darn good at celluloid too. (IMHO) :arf:

Just speculation from what I've heard in interviews, as cool as it would be for them to shoot on Epics :coolgleamA:

I think Chris Nolan has a lot to say too. He shot his first feature and seems to be a very intelligent gent who knows about a lot more than 'just' directing.

I've worked with Wally before. The man is incredibly talented, and is very passionate about his love of film. We are OK with that. We respect any artist's decision on which tool he chooses. Our job is not to agressively " switch " every DP out there. Our job is to make the best cameras that we possibly can, and let the tools speak for themselves.

If for some reason they stopped making film tomorrow, we hope we have created an option for filmmakers that film would look over at and be proud of.

While I haven't agreed with every single opinion of RED so far, that right there is why I will always support you guys. You're in it for the right reasons.

...and when SCARLET ships I can finally support you guys with money. ;-)

Well put, Jarred. I wish everybody would realize that it's not about killing film or forcing people to switch... it's about building new tools and pushing everything forward.

To be honest, I really wish that Nolan and Pfister keep pushing film as long as possible. If it wasn't for the invention of film, who's to know if RED would have ever been. What would have been the inspiration for the minds of RED? A statement like the above from RED, is just ONE out of MANY reasons that I respect them THAT much! :)

...Btw. FILM WOULD BE VERY PROUD ;D

I LOVE this response. You nailed it!

Perfectly put.

Very nicely said. What you guys have done could have been expected from companies that have been in the business for years. But something that started as an idea, that very few believed had become the standard tool of most filmmakers around the world. I think your passion, hard work and a tremendous courage had push and force the big companies to catch up. RED achivements are already EPIC. The tools have spoken for themselves. In my own tiny experience RED had allowed me to be more competitive, independent and creative and I am very grateful for it.

So cool. I was just talking to my wife about Super 8 again the other day. I don't know if I will bring this tidbit of info up to her, or she'll put ME in a straight jacket.

(I might talk about RED too much. It's to the point that she knows what I'm talking about when I say, "Hey, Jim said..." or "Jarred showed us some new pics..." like I know you guys personally or something) :)

If my wife Amber and I did not shoot together we would be long divorced.

Oh we shoot together, we love each other...I just talk about RED too much. :)
