I could be wrong, but I've never believed (from watching the film) that this was shot on RPP's.

With a little detective work I have found the following:

From an interview with SS, he said the following about Contagion:
“It is an epic, but it must also be intimate,” Soderbergh said. “I shot the entire film with two lenses. I wanted it, in style, to be one of the simplest movies I’ve ever made. No waste.”

He's made the two-lens comment in multiple interviews.

That said, these BTS photos from Contagion show what look to be a super-speed or standard-speed lens... maybe he used different lenses for different portions of the film?

I'm out to dinner, but I didn't see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on here. That was shot with Zeiss Master Primes by Cronenweth as well. I think Hitchcock was too.

I looked it up, Phil is correct on the Master Primes. I have to say, out of all the amazing DP's shooting RED, I really love what Jeff Cronenweth is doing.

Thanks Will for the list!

Updated.

Hitchcock for sure?

Well we know which DP likes to use Master Primes. :yesnod:

Where are the super speeds? :(

Will Super Speeds are older, and on major movies you are more likely to see MASTER PRIMES if they need the speed, or ULTRA PRIMES if they need the size. Not that Super's aren't great, you just don't see them on major features that much anymore.

The Ultra Primes are the popular, small prime lens choice for 3D movies shot on Epic. Very easy to color match, etc.

Argo ... I know it's Alexa but wasn't there some RED shots in there?

Paul, Argo was almost ENTIRELY shot on film (spherical in "Iran", and anamorphic in "Hollywood"). Only a COUPLE of scenes were shot on Alexa, when they needed the low light (the night car scenes, and inside Hagia Sophia). Nothing was shot on RED, as far as I know.

WILL - Ironically, all the spherical shots for Argo were filmed with Super Speeds!!!

I really like what Jeff has been doing with Red. He's been one of the guys pushing the envelope in terms of what you can do with the Epic and Red One in narrative applications. His low light and low key work is really wonderful. Pushing boundaries on what we would all consider a proper exposure. That's brave and good stuff.

The Social Network to me represents a really successful edit as well. Pacing was really stellar. Great use of the score as well.

Couldn't agree more. If RED offered a 1 day Master Class with Jeff Cronenweth, I would be all over that. WOW, that would be amazing.

Hint, Hint: Jeff Cronenweth Master Class at RED Studios!!!?

Anyone ......,Anyone.....
