  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim's extended leave...

Jim's departure is a great loss.
Hi is amazing motivator and we all get the exited with his comments.
Of course...HE is the boss, the creator the mind behind all this..and...he keeps his promises. Say no more.

I am following this forum for a loooong time and every day...check out my join date.
Then again I am not posting here a lot. That is because I am learning and a newbie....and there are guys here with tons more experience and knowledge then me. I am all ears.
The only reason I keep quiet is because i haven't got much to add compared with the level exposed here.

Lately there has been an enormous amount of New RedUsers on this forums.
Some of those are really welcomed and generous with their knowledge, but unfortunately some others create a lot of noise...and confusion and rather that keeping the treads on track and focused they deviate the attention and even attack each other with pitiful comments.

I wish there could be a massive cleaning operation here so we can all enjoy this site the way we used to.

I am saving to buy a Red one. I am full on for making movies. To the best of my abilities. That's why RedUser is great!
Red Company has put hope on all of us Indies and professional filmmakers.

Now I go back to the shades only hopping that the noise fades out...

All the best
Taff

vote up or down comments

I'd like to see a system like the one used in reddit's comments where each of us can vote up or down individual replies. And then show an average reply grade under the user's name. then maybe even the option to view only a certain grade's comments.

I strongly suggest a voting system to give relevancy to users posts. Informing the reader on what is good and what is not is the most powerful form of filtering content.

Slashdot.org uses this to the best example I believe. As they do not censor any posts, but rather give each post a community generated score and let you decide weather you want to read them or not. So for instance if a post is great, and is funny, it would say (Score: 5 funny) next to it or (Score 4 : Insightful) . This is just an example of what can be done... Im sure there are heaps of modifications available such as this to the VBullitein software to achieve this purpose.

An owners only forum, would be useless. The reason being, is because I believe some of the worst offenders of jibber jabber on this forum happen to be owners. Some of the most insightful posts have come from outsiders and non owners. Also the fact that this forum is called reduser. not redowner. Some of the most serious users out there happen to choose to rent.

I agree with Tom, it definitely was in the RED Community's best interest to have had Jim and the entire RED team as attentive and active on the boards as they have been. The overall responsiveness has been more than appreciated and uncharacteristic of any or most companies out here.

The nature and quantity of the posts will definitely need to be tapped off. I would love to see current owners have more platform or vehicle to present workflow, workarounds, field testing, active production, etc. The idea being more useful information that the board is currently offering and instead of the consuming effort of sifting board posts just to find the real nuggets of information.

Please construct the board to be less a medium to express personal insecurities and more about actionable information of tool(s) use, benefit and industry exploitation.

All the offerings at NAB are promising. Along the developement path, don't alway feel compelled to share information before it destined time.

acehole ... welcome to the world of "MODERATORS" as a positive character as I am, I have been very disappointed as well this past few days, especially after been directly involved with the RED team at their Booth, this year, setting up few LEDz to light up the RC Helicopter, I have seen the hard work that goes on at RED and in the way in which is performed and the attitude that they have towards the company that they work for and especially the attitude towards "US" costumers and "USERS"!

This guys literally take "WORK" at "HOME" with them, responding to e-mails at every odd hour of the day and at just every day of the week, their commitment, goes far beyond any other company I have ever deal with.

Not to mention what the RED company has been bringing to us and it is continuing to bring, I don't need to go in to details on this one, as every one knows the unprecedented and revolutionary that this company has accomplished.

So again I'm very pleased to know that know there will be an implementation for stronger mesure as not to allow those few disruptive BAD APPLES to create GREY CLOUDS over such accomplishments and this GREAT COMMUNITY, which as become truly a FAMILY to me, especially more so now that after this incredible few days I go the true pleasure to meet so many members of this Community.

Good idea. Either a thumbs up/thumbs down, or a rating system, like you mentioned.

Take your time Jim, you've already done so much for us.
You deserve a good break.

anyone who wants to switch to using their real names, PM Jason Ramsey and he will hook you up. Its a good start.

Once I was moderating on cinematography.net, where we employed the system that new members´ posts would need to be approved by one of the moderators. This workload was shared among 5 of us. Once new users had understood the feel of the group, they´d be switched to auto-approve.

Beauty was also, if someone made nasty comments afterwards, they could always be switched back to manual approval.

Maybe that could be a way to go for Reduser. I am sure you´d find 5 volunteers to handle the approval system.

P.S. Maybe there could a an extra Group called "Lounge" or "Red Café" or something, which would be a bit more open, chitchat, pub-like; while the other threads should be more to the point.

Just some thoughts from someone who´s been leeching for the past 2 years, and has finally made the jump ;)

The truth is that most of us are spoiled little brats :).

That's the truth.

The RED people are delivering things that shouldn't be here, but we keep wanting unrealistically more. They give us the finger, we bite off their arm.

We are The Spoiled Bunch. :)

Nevertheless, I think that interchangeable lenses on Scarlet isn't so impossible. :)

Lol.

I'd like to second (and eighth, etc....) the other owners who have suggested a semi-private or restricted posting "Red Owners" forum.

I seem to remember a post in a thread a really long time ago, and wonder if that might not make the non-constructive noise drop to -60db.

Is it possible?

I am really disappointed on what happened here the last couple days.
Things are going to change.
If anyone has any ideas on how to make things better.. i am all ears.

Perhaps a simple $10 fee for anyone to sign up to post would keep most of the trolls away - but allow seriously interested people to get as involved as they'd like. If they don't have $10 to post they don't have $3k to buy a Scarlet. Hell... let 'em take the $10 off Scarlet when they do buy. At least then you'd know they had a real identity and a little bit of skin in the game. You could keep the forums publicly available to READ, of course. So all the info still gets out there.

I probably would have said that was a weak idea about a week ago. Right now I think it's a weak idea to let the forums go crazy. The rating system Acehole mentioned is a neat idea.

Oh - tried to say hi to you and NAB but you were swamped. Same with Jim. But I can tell you I came away from NAB really enthused about RED, the new products and all the companies supporting you guys.

I come back after two months and this forum has "gone to the dogs". What the heck happened. Time to get out the ban hammer and don't be afraid to use it moderators. :pinch:

"stay tuned"

Thanks for looking into this, Jarred. RedUser is a fantastic and much needed resource. Now that I've received and am actually using the camera I find myself coming here daily to look for that extra piece of information and/or to try and answer any question I can.

You must be exhausted from NAB. I hope you had a blast. You certainly rocked our world with those three announcements.
