  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim Jannard, what about his words?

I would caution you against projecting your own needs on to the majority. Personally, I am skeptical about this particular claim. When is the last time it paid to develop less capable technology in a rapidly moving industry?

Hello Terry,

There was not my needs VS the majority, but just a niche product, like the R1 is now.
Since there are chinese SSD for R1 on Alibaba at a ridicolous price (i'll never buy them, i don't want to brick the camera), so my request, out of any selfishness, was for re-branded SSD tailored for R1 ( since all Red SSDs are rebranded from 1.8 very expensive enterprise model, or speed-custom made).

But i don't want to insist on this, who saw this, from Red, can decide if it is good or not for Red.
Mine was just an idea, in the spirit of the community.

Peace.

The fact that RED still supports a discontinued product is huge. Putting resources into a discontinued project and taking it away from new products is a waste of time to me. But guess what, they keep working on the Red One. Just keep in mind it is discontinued and maybe you can relax your rants a bit. They will get to it when they get to it...

This is sooo very true!

Hello all, and Jarred in particular,

Jarred:

you said in a previous post that you are waiting for tests about the new "4k Sandisk Cf card", and no news since then.

It seems like you've forgot us, we all are waiting for an answer and a solution, i've shoot a drama-documentary in London with Red 16Gb Cf cards (Red does offer no other solution), and it was "IMPOSSIBLE"!

You said that you are waiting for tests, what about now? Did these tests have been done? Did you contact Susan Park from Sandisk (The marketing director) who offers to give you a technical support and make these new Cf cards "Red compatible"?

Don't let us down Jarred, Red has his reputation thanks to his customers, don't let them down, they deserve more considerations..

Ps: Sorry for the mistakes on the Thread title, i was talking about Jarred and not Jim..

According to BM a lot is not reliable in flash. They have been having their own problems recording at the high data rates they do. They even noted that just firmware updates to ssd's would change performance. I don't know how much this applies to cf cards, if they have controller sections the firmware changes between production runs, but changes is the hardware chip design can also drastically alter performance. Why is this important, because how a program records to a card (write timings sequence etc) affects maxinum thought put, as well as temperature etc, and overheating from continuous recording. So a lot of testing to determine how best to do this. If you want to record at nowhere near top speed it might not matter.

For instance, I have a candy bar personal fullhd camera, my favorite camera actually, Even though it uses less then 2MB/s data rate, and I use a class 10 minimum 10MB/s card, it stuffs up occasionally (once an hour or two of filming). Very fickle flash. They should take a look at crossbar memory instead, cheaper and faster.
