Titans of Industry are not without their critics. It has always been so, and will always be thus.
Jim Jannard forever changed the "film" industry. His name will be remembered in the likes of George Eastman. His contribution was that significant.
Now this being an internet forum, there will no doubt be posts by naysayers because they too can voice their opinion. But that is all it is, an opinion. Like the belly button, everybody has one.
I am glad that the timing worked out as it did. Jim had the idea right about the time I was searching for said camera. I only wished he hadn't named the sensor "Mysterium" as that gave me pause to wait and see if it was for real. I delayed after the first 100 slots were opened, then 1,000. Rats. But after it reopened, I knew time waits for no man. So I jumped with both feet. I didn't want to miss the party that I knew was coming. And boy did it.
These past six years since I put down my initial $1,000 deposit so I could wait a year to get my original R1 #2658 have been quite a wonderful ride. I now have the finest camera in the world and the opportunity to make it even better with an upgrade to Dragon. But for now, I'm holding off. This Epic camera I now have, #503 is so good, I'm in no rush. But thanks to Jim and his vision, I can simply upgrade it when I choose. Nice.
This being a public forum, I cannot expound on the generosity of Jim towards my family. But I will say this, the man has brought tears to my eyes with his kindness. For no other reason than simply being a decent and honorable man, he went out of his way to be gracious and I will always be appreciative.
Jim, you have accomplished so much in your life first with Oakley and now with RED, it would be impossible without detractors, those envious ones who cannot stand to see another succeed, let alone twice, and with moxie and the courage of his convictions. That really sends them over the edge!
Remember, it's not bragging if you can back it up.
Hope to see you around sometime. Thanks for everything.
Mark
