  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jarred! Please change the EXT connector on the Expander Module to Right Angle plug!

Not sure if its actually out in the wild yet, but here it is on BH's pre-order site:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...720_0058_komodo_expander_module.html/overview

Looks great. But please please please, pretty please change the EXT for a shorter right-angle cable! That straight sticking right out the back is going to get mushed on everyone's chest who's holding it MF style and its going to bust!

And while we're at it... question: I'm assuming those mounting points on the front allow for a forthcoming matching 15mm lightweight rod mount at the proper height?

thanks

You're not alone with your request, but it's

A) definitely too late for any changes in this regard and
B) there's not enough space for a right angle plug with the bend/strain relief on both sides.

If you don't want to shorten the cable yourself and solder a RA or shorter plug to it, you could still cut off the bend relief, open the module and try to pull the cable a bit more inside. Warranty period's over.

(What bothers me much more is the useless, integrated quick release plate. Due to this chamfer, you most likely would need a special LWS rod mount if you want to have the rods on a standard/proper height for cinema lenses)

Many ideas and even more compromises usually lead to a final product that will never fit everybodys needs.
...we should just be able to live with that.

It would have been cool to put 9 pogo pin pellets on the sole of the camera

Yes, that's what I was expecting, too - looked a bit like the "PWR" pogo interface of mavo edge - and then it turned out to be the service port. (internal battery?) :mad2:

Remember there's 3rd party stuff if that accessory isn't quite right for your rig. The Wooden Camera Komodo B-Box comes to mind and solves that use case. There's also more stuff coming.

Yeah, I'm just worried about the faux fischer 3 pin start/top on the B-box. (Indeed, maybe someone here knows the answer). Is it the same protocol as the fischer 3 on their DSMC2 top plates? Because our experience has been that those don't play nice with most standard preston/cmotion/bartech cables

Same question here. I played with the RED expander module on our local rental house's ST and my first thought was that straight lemo cable. Definitely leaning toward the B box and a swing away D box á la Alexa Mini for my "studio" configuration (only canon batts and a handle for run and gun) but that 3-pin RS concerns me too. In an ideal universe we could have a true RS with power.
