  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jarred/Brent.. a little reassurance would be good...

Guys, I think a lot of folks ordered Scarlet with the AL Canon mount.

This mount is a New RED Product and obviously there's still a bit of a backorder situation with the TI Canon mount, so some degree of nervousness here! :wink5:

Could you guys throw us a wee crumb of comfort, and tell us that the AL Canon mount supply situation is well in hand, under Adult Supervision, and won't hold up the parade come Dec. 1st?

Thanks!

Mike

I'm somewhat reassured by the fact that at least the AL mount is not available separately and was not already backordered. Also the Canon AL mount is only available as part of the least expensive camera option RED has ever offered so they ought to have been expecting some serious product interest. I imagine this means that those of us that ordered AL may be in a better spot than some of the TI customers. Or not, but at least the idea gives me a little reassurance :)

I agree with you Noah. I feel (hope) that is why they never sold them separately. I'm so excited, it hurts.

At the scarlet event I recall them saying something about the aluminum mount would not slow down Scarlet deliveries. I think you're good to go.

I had said before, sometimes no news is good news. I believe that is still the case. Thus the whole Nov. 3rd date and confidence Red is showing by delivering what is proving to be a total game changer, again! I ordered the Canon AL Mount also on Nov. 3rd.

Actually, I was about to create a thread requesting that Red let us who already have orders on the titanium to switch to Aluminum - we never felt we needed titanium but Red came out and said that they weren't going to make the Aluminum. Now they have changed that again and it only seems fair that we have the opportunity to switch to the Al version. From the scarlet pricing it seems they are still working from the original $500 price for aluminum vs. $2000 for the Titanium. Hopefully it would be the same, but I wouldn't object to a (again, hopefully, small) price jump for the Aluminum mount - I want to see Red make enough to justify ongoing lens characterization, support and updates.

+1

I too have a Ti Canon mount on order, and am wondering why I'm spending an extra $1500 for it. I'd rather get media and batteries.

It's been mentioned elsewhere that the titanium mount is less susceptible to temperature induced shape distortion, expansion, and contraction. This makes the titanium more suitable for extreme conditions and you'll be able to easily remove/attach glass in those situations.

Titanium as a material is much more expensive to work with in the CNC milling world. It's much harder, tougher, and more time consuming to work with. It's unit price is also more expensive and materials for working with harder metals, like blades and drill bits, wear out faster. Where as, if you were determined to do so and likely intoxicated, you could carve an aluminum block with a good pocket knife.

In daily use for in average consistent operating temperatures I believe the aluminum mount will perform just fine. We'll all know that for sure in a couple of weeks.

Maybe I can shed a little bit of light.

I ordered the Scarlet-X Al Canon mount package on Nov 3rd because they didn't have the PL Mount package available yet.

I then changed my order the next day to a PL mount, but I also wanted the Al Canon mount, so I just asked my Bomb Squad rep to change the Al mount to PL and then add the Al in my cart so it can be shipped at a later time.

I was told by my bomb squad rep that if I changed my order now (24th Nov) to a PL mount then it would void my position in the queue and start me over. I was wondering if changing my order to that, given they are shipping now, would help me get my camera faster. I'd then get the canon mount at a later date. But because I waited for this for too long, it wasn't going to work :)

He also said that Scarlet-X Ti Pl camera's "aren't shipping in massive quantities" (and therefore wasn't able to guarantee an exact shipping date if I were to swap)

Hope that helps.

Same here.....

You guys have a rep? I haven't heard anything in the 3 weeks since I contacted them by mail.
Yes, when your first order is ready to process/ship you'll be contacted by your Bomb Squad rep. I ordered something other than a Scarlet awhile ago so I had a rep in place prior to the 3rd.

If the smart Nikon mount were available, I would change my order even if I lost my spot. For now, I'll make do with the Canon Al mount and use an adapter.

Same. I ordered the package and made some changes to which Items I wanted and did some swapping and it had no effect on my position.

Mmm, obviously a bit of confusion on this. I was told I couldn't add to or modify my order also. So I have already shipped a few extras items to Australia separately. Paid more in shipping this way... but it meant I paid and got delivery for those before the US dollar strengthened I guess. Though still likely came out at a loss. I guess fiddling and re fiddling with orders, especially with the amount they have to ship, could prove a potential nightmare, so the policy makes sense, and you guys probably just slipped through and got lucky I'm thinking.

I'm SO #909 btw

Exciting times :)

Best Wishes all

Lliam

This has been addressed already in a few threads. I will try to break it down again:
* When you place an order, there is a timestamp on each item in your order.
* If you want to remove a item from your order, you need to notify your rep before order processing begins. Eventually, you will be able to do this on RED.com.
* If you remove an item, it does not affect your place in line (ie, your timestamp) on the remaining items on your order.
* You cannot "switch" items on an order. You have to cancel one, then place new order for another.
* You cannot add items to an existing order. For one thing, items fulfilled by that item order timestamp so no difference in fulfillment if on existing order or new. Same timestamp. By placing new, you can do it on RED.com without having to reach out to us.
* If you do not already have a rep, one will be assigned to you as your order is about to begin order processing.
* If you need a change to your order (per above) before order processing, a rep will be assigned to you and take care of that for you. Contact us via RED.com.

Again, please only contact us if you need us to directly assist you and your questions cannot be answered in our FAQ section or otherwise on RED.com.
