  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

JACK THE GIANT KILLER

I'm very much looking forward to using the EPIC Red for my next movie "Jack the Giant Killer" which will be shot in, what else, 3D. The camera's incredibly compact size and extraordinary resolution are ideal for the 3D format.

But more importantly "Jack the Giant Killer" is my first movie set in a time before electricity. The EPIC's extraordinary exposure latitude will allow me to more effectively explore the use of natural light.

Imagine if Kubrick had an RED Epic availed to him while working on, say, Barry Lyndon, in which he did some pretty innovative low-light work (requiring specially designed then low-light Zeiss lenses).

I think this is the greatest strength of the camera compared to others, the HDRx latitude and low noise enables photographic situations that haven't been thought of before. I'm looking forward to all productions that make use of natural light.

With all of these big productions opting for Epic for 3D, meaning twice the usual number of camera bodies, the Epic assembly line must be in overdrive right now!

With more setups during the same scene and together with a second unit team that's alot of cameras :)

Joseph, you have reminded me about the wonderful American Cinematographer article by Ed DiGiulio about the work he did developing lenses for Stanley Kubrick. I'm sure most of you have read it, but just in case you haven't, here's a link. Great piece about cinema technology.

Jim, I don't suppose you have any of these lenses? Any other Kubrick-owned gear in your collection?
