On all fronts - Hydrogen, Helium, VV, Mono Weapon, DSMC[SUP]2[/SUP] modules, firmware v6.4 official release...

I hope it means we're in for some great news soon

Add ipp2 sdk to that also.

Apple announced a September 12 press conference. Maybe there will be some interesting developments there?

David

Jarred told us, that the upgrade program will be officially closed September 28th. I believe that new things will be announced after that. Like the Sensor-swap-program...

IPP2 SDK and "full release" is likely the next "big thing".

Last time I was at RSH there was "too much secret stuff" in a certain area where I normally chat with Jarred.

So if that's anything to go by, there's a few things on the horizon.

As for general industry stuff, some notable things happening:
- Camera Related, Sony's new FF35 36x24mm sensored F65 replacement and Panasonic's newer thang. Canon has stuff coming, but not yet. There is a new Phantom on the horizon though.
- Phone Related, iPhone8 and Google Pixel 2 will be announced within the next 2-ish months.

Back to RED.
- Jim has mentioned that we'll see some more Hydrogen stuff in September.
- Jarred has been dropping all sorts of hints regarding specific things like sensor technology and swapping.
- There's at least 3 products I know of that are not out yet, one of which was teased pretty clearly.
- 3rd party side, there are indeed some interesting modules on the way from various sources.

Back to the motion picture industry.
- Expect a hell of a lot of focus on 4K and HDR very, very shortly and when CES 2018 drops.
- Expect a lot of rather interesting display technology coming. Big and small. Prices all over the map.
- IBC is coming and perhaps also of interest Photokina, where I'm expecting a couple things that are likely interesting.
- Arri "might" be showing something in September, but you didn't hear that from me. If you've been under a rock, it is indeed still their 100 year anniversary.

Back to RED.
- When RED is quiet that means they are building things. It's been a quiet-ish year in some ways in my mind.
- As mentioned, DSMC1 and OG RED One are at the end of their life in many ways come late September. The focus and future are DSMC2 for a while.
- One quote I like from Jarred, "We are working to make the cameras you have even better". IPP2 is a clear example of that, but I wonder what else could be going on.

Back to industry.
- RED was first to the 8K digital cinema arena. They soon won't be the only kids on the block.
- Jim was right in regards to the future of sensor tech. The most important thing is indeed pixel design. This will become clearer soon.

While the quiet becomes rather noticeable after a while, the silence can grow to deafening magnitudes if not broken eventually.

Thanks for all of the insight Phil! I started to watch the anamorphic test that sharegrid put together and was excited to see you there. Great contributions my friend and I'm glad to see you staying out in front of the pack. Very well deserved!

I second this - thanks for a good, robust update not just on RED, but the industry overall!

Im waiting for the lighting strike and then the thunder.
My hope is there will be some news on the VV sensor. Weather its we have it figured out on production or we just leapfrogged to the next gen because its better... Oh one could only hope.
The sensor swap is supper interesting to me. And a good step in the right direction... One block and many uses...

IPP2 Release Build and SDK seem like they can also unlock the floodgates of other things. I can only imagine the amount of work going into making a fully stable release build of an entirely new imaging pipeline. I, for one, will be very excited when that happens.

I'll bump this because it's been quiet again

H1 is on the horizon.

Any word on the next 7.X release?

How about the SHARP + RED 8K television collab?

Also, a few things Jarred has teased like an Ultra-Brite monitor from RED, and some gear from his GDU company.

Can we get some more teases, please? :001_smile:

Please please speed up the boot time and menu response time on my Monstro FW7.XX. Its infuriatingly slow. I made the mistake at laughing at the Sony F55 laggy menu response and now I have the same disease. Not a good look for the companys flagship camera.

Same!

Also the record button delay is a big problem. Missed a couple of shots already.

Noticed things have been quiet again save for Gemini, the new site, and the 7.1 beta.

Jarred, Brent, anything in the works (esp. accessory-wise), or are you holding off on dev until DSMC3 comes?

RED rarely, and I mean super rarely discusses anything in true development (I mean competition is obviously out there). But Jarred does occasionally tease a few things. Notably there's been more chatter regarding a High-Bright LCD.

Ah yes, I've been waiting for that for a while! Fingers crossed it'll come out soon!

Three weeks until the “big one” over here for me...Hopefully this comes in the timeframe. That would be an incredibly fortunate timing!
