Was going to finish my movie in resolve, but with Avid finally getting 2k and 4k ability I decided to finish in Avid. My colorist finished in resolve. We did a few minor edits, but dropped in the new VFX shots, also changed a few stock footage shots. I was told to create a new media MXF and a new AAF to go back to Avid. We did this and all the media is online. The sequence popped up. The only issue is when I hot play I get a weird error.

Assertion failed: I_expected bounds.getresolutionY() == newHeight

The individual clips play fine. If I start a new sequence and drop in clips it works. But the sequence from Resolve that has my movie won't play. With the error message it has a debugger option. I hit that like 10 times then gave me the error, mismatched media, wrong format.

The current new Avid project is 2k. This had me thinking from something I read a while ago. Does my colorist need to change his timeline to 2k before making the AAF, etc.? He's checking tomorrow, but I know its set to HD because his monitor is HD. I read something like changing the timeline to the output you want and setting it to full quality. Thought I would ask here for some help. Thanks!

Yes, I would output the file in the format's native resolution, compatible with the original Avid session.

The alternative would be to have the colorist just render a single "baked" file and then drop in the changes within Avid as needed. That's the fastest possible method, but not necessarily the best one.

Well the original avid session, everything was transcoded to dnx36. I made an AAF to resolve and onlined there. It was a mix of 5k red footage, 2k VFX footage and HD footage. But since we made edits and changes in resolve we made a new AAF and new MFX media to go along with it back to AVID. I opened a brand new AVID 2k project with the MXF media and AAF. I didn't want a single baked in file in case I needed to make other adjustments. But I'm having the issue I mentioned above. The only thing I can think of is his timeline is set to HD when he did the AAF and thats why the AAF sequence, in my new AVID 2k project, isn't working. So just to clarify he needs to change the resolve timeline to 2k? The native resolution or the raw clips are 5k, 2k, and HD. But I was told if I want a 2k master then to start a new project in AVID as 2k, but I assume I need to do the same in the resolve timeline as well.

What is the resolution you want to be finishing at in the end?

Michael
