  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ISO, ISO...

Eric... good question.

When FLUT becomes available, here is my check list.

1. Set REDcolor and REDgamma
2. Check or set White Balance
3. Adjust FLUT Control (if you have not clipped RAW, you have complete brightness/mid grey adjustment without clipping).
4. The image should looks incredible at this point. Create whatever look you want from here. There are many new tools to do what you want.

The "F" in FLUT stands for "floating point".

The new color science of FLUT is more accurate than Build 20 by quite a bit.

I can't tell you all the features in the FLUT-enabled REDCINE-X but you will be surprised and happy. The scoop will be out in a few weeks.

FLUT works really well for RED ONE (Mysterium) footage. It works even better for Mysterium-X footage and there will be an in camera FLUT component to EPIC.

Hope that helps...

Jim

#3 sounds particularly great. Really looking forward to this.

Man I feel guilty for being away on holiday :)

All the announcements and the stills look fantastic. I just have one question to Jim, Jarred or Graeme regarding the 2/3" MX low light performance.

Since the 2/3" format is (very roughly) around a quarter the size of S35mm should we expect 1/4th the low light performance-or are there some more magic pixies at work?

Noise is not related to pixel size as much as pixel design... although size certainly has some influence. We have been amazed at the performance of the 2/3" sensor. You won't be disappointed if you compare to any other 2/3" camera.

Will the 2/3" Scarlet be shown off at RED Day?

My R1 is packed and ready for an upgrade. I'll fedex priority overnight. Thanks for the clip Jarred!

Thank you for putting my mind at ease, time and time again Jim.

Wow. Would be fantastic to have an .R3D or a 2K mov ...but I know when I ask too much :) Thanks for the post Jarred.

Thanks for posting the footage. Is there any way we can see it at 2k rather then at 1/4 resolution?

Please don't be under the impression that ISO 4000 will look like ISO 400 at 4K. It looks really incredible for high ISO but keep your expectations in check.

The pattern noise issue seems to be eliminated which alone makes this much more usable than what can be achieved on the current sensor. The noise that does seem to be present can easily be dealt with using plug ins like neat video.

Again, makes me happier to have this camera.

I'm hoping that is the case- but it is hard to tell from such a small file. I know ISO 4000 is not the same as ISO 400, but it would be interesting to see it at 2k and see how useable it really is ... From this 1k file it looks impressive.

There is no question that if you hit exposure (really exposure for ISO 4000) and shoot daylight... use a touch of NR, ISO 4000 is useable. No question.

don't mean to be pedantic in the slightest but is that usable for large theatre 4K projection or usable for downscaled 1080p?

Can't wait to go out and see what's possible in available light... :001_tt1:
