  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ISO, ISO...

giv it to me

giv it to me

Here is one lit by my iPhone... a free app called "Just Light". Not very bright. Daylight balanced and still about ISO 4000.

Download the app yourself, turn off all the lights and see what I'm talking about... :-)

After I go out and buy all new 5600K lights you spring this :). Very impressive.

I thought all lights above 4200k can be purchased with a cool-off period. :biggrinjester:

This is insane. Jim, if the boys can achieve this clean image on a 30-second exposure there is no way you can weasel out of an Oscar or two.

With your next test, can you point the camera WFO into the moonless sky (on 16 January 2010)?

Still running company business out of your garage, eh Jim?

This low-light stuff is impressing the hell out of me. I knew you guys would be pushing hard on this, but you are really pushing it now. It's great to see.

Thanks Jim

This is absolutely fantastic low light performance shots on R1 with M-X sensor at ISO 4000 using zoom lens wide open @ T2.8.

Again... we aren't done. Here is a bit larger size. ISO 4000.

where'd you get the idea of a 30 second exposure or about timelapse?

i'm pretty sure we're looking at stills from an .r3d (without post noise reduction)

which, as it happens, is awesome. next time i'm short on lights i'll just round up the crew's cells.

Time lapse.

How come you still have the time to browse Reduser, Deanan? :biggrin5:

Epic and Scarlet will be killer timelapse machines. :)

I used to do some crazy timelapse boxes about 10 years ago and I'm super
excited about what we'll be able to do in the new cameras.

I think Pawel was saying that if this is the same level as noise that can be expected from a 30 second exposure at 4000iso, he is in heaven.

That's what I do and the only reason I use Canon DSLRs is because they produce the cleanest high ISO image on long exposures. From what Jim showed here, it looks like this may change.

I'm pretty sure Jim's shooting at 1/48sec.

Music to my ears, Deanan. :biggrin5:

oh, well yeah... but i think we were finished talking about dslr's a long time ago - or maybe it just didn't need to come up.

i'd like to see a 30 second exposure on the new sensors... wow!

yeah, i've shot 30 second exposures on my humble canon dslr at ISO 1600 and I wish they looked this good, I really do. the newer ones do a little better than mine... yet still - golly gee whillicker.
