  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Iso 6000 - mx straight outta da box

Not necessarily. With a film shutter, since it's a hard edge moving down across the film, it's going to cause a different effect than what happens on a digital sensor. It's a hard line on digital between 2 rows.

Really Impressive

Not correct. Unless you have sync, film cameras do exactly the same thing.

How that? Have a hard line between 2 rows of pixels?

Mechanical shutter has an other effect, on film and/or on digital.

Cool footage!

I am not sure i would have rented my RED1 to that shoot if i knew that all those lasers would fire in all directions!! :-D

are lasers bad for sensors?

I guess they could be.. must get up to date on current laser technology.. can we shoot people with them yet?

Film cameras do indeed have a line in them where the flash stopped during the mechanical shutter movement, I'm not saying that is not the same. The difference is that the edge of that line is not going to be as sharp on the film as compared to the digital sensor. The light passing by that edge is going to have and a slight softness to it. I've seen this before.

Now given the EXTREMELY fast read/reset of the RED camera, thinking about this more, this might not be so much the case now. Depending on the rise time of the flash output, the edge of that flash will be less sharp now on the RED as the flash fades between line reads. So in fact, while a different phenomenon, it could look VERY VERY similar (and more pleasing).

Zak, hats off to you man. But apart from the technical side which I can't guess how easy or difficult it was (I don't own a Red) for me it's the feeling it gives me and that takes a certain...what? I don't know. Feels like something Spike Jonze would have done on one of his "I can't give a f''k what we do today but let's shoot something interesting and fun" kind of mood.

Just checked out a couple of other Zaks work at the same website, Doctor Who and Brainwaves being my favourites. Good stuff, like it a lot.

Name of song & band please.

It is The Black Keys "Tighten up"

Zak awesome job! I love this kind of work! I recently did a job with a Australian DP she did alot this style of work!

Keep it up!
