  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is the Panasonic TH-42PF11UK still the plasma monitor of choice?

Just to make sure: you are talking about a "consumer" product here, right?

My bad: now I got the difference. How do they compare to consumer products? What are the main differences (other than they don't have any recievers built in)?

I agree with you on the crippled HDMI board. If you look at Panasonics pro plasma PDF, the dUal HDMI board still carries the 10 in it's product part. Since the inputs on these are modular I am hoping that the gen 12 displays bring wihit a new HDM board and we can just plug them in our 11 Series displays and get 10 bit color.

Series12 is twice as much dynamic range, the best contrast ratio in the world, 40,000:1, and surprisingly, Panasonic finally mentioned the actual number of the gradation level of 6,144. PF11 was 5,120 level.
Also Series 12 does not get lower resolution in the motion, provides the 1080 line resolution on moving picture.
The color reproduction ability is 110% of 709 specification.

Other features are like, 1:1 pixel by pixel mode, monitor mode (same as Pf11), Studio white balance (to use as studio monitor) and so on.

I checked side by side consumer G11 and G12 NEOPDP models and the difference is not that obvious as it should be judging by the specs, but it's there.

I just ordered 46" Panasonic TX-P46G10 "consumer" model.

Also I do not need HD-SDI and 50" is too big for my small studio room.

It is my reference big screen monitor and has pretty good blacks >>>Shades of Gradation>>>6,144 equivalent

just about 1,000 steps less than Panasonic professional Premiere model.

"Premiere is more than a plasma TV — it's a 1080p studio-level monitor with an industry-leading 7,160 steps of gradation"

HD-SDI I do with AJA Hi-3G HDSDI to HDMI converter to HP LP2480zx DreamColor monitor for grading and it works perfect.

I wonder if this Premiere series is from what Panasonic adopted from Pioneer.

Don't know but tests show black level close(er) to Kuro Elite, while higher detail in blacks.

I'm not sure even which generation panels are these. They don't state whether these are NeoPDP panels (and what is motion resolution) and it seems logical they would mention NeoPDP if it was used. My guess is that those are G11's with better screen coating and electronics.

There's also confusing data or typo on their web: they state 40000:1 then 60000:1 for 50" version.

We just purchased one its now a TH-42PF11EK which seems to be a harmonised European product rather than specific Uk product. Its highly recommended.

The Pro models have fewer bells and whistles in most cases, don't have all the extra image processing and picture enhancement modes. Most of which can be disabled on the consumer displays anyway. The big advantage to the Pro series is that they accept modular interface boards so you can add HD-SDI, DVI, etc.. The pro models are really no more expensive.

That said, the 12th-gen panels have been available in the consumer line for a few months now. I'm using a Panny 42" TC-P42G15 right now. It performs on par with the (now discontinued) Pioneer Elite panels, actually a bit better in some respects -- seems to have more realistic color overall. Black level between this and the Kuros seems equivalent, but I often find the Kuros to be over-saturated, even after calibration. This display only cost me $1K w/ free shipping.

It would be nice to have HD-SDI input and I'll replace this with a 52" Pro 12 series if they can offer 10 or 12 bit HDMI. Right now, I need the HDMI input more. ...I just hope RED Rocket gets 10bit HDMI support soon. I've asked Rob, Deanan, etc.. about it and they have never given an answer.

The cards here are hugely expensive £1100 for the SDI/HDSDI and £2100 for the dial link HDSDI (that doesnt support SDI). The dial HDMI is about £145 and the display comes with a DVI-D card which occupies one of the three slots

Are their any views on using the Black magic or other SDi/Dial SDi to HDMI device ?

Im wondering if interlaced HD is properly presented via this type of convertor.

Jeff,

there is no need to do HDMI out from REDRocket just because

AJA Hi5-3G HDSDI to HDMI 1.3 mini converter gives you all what you need, 10 bit or 12 bit HDMI out.

This is getting mighty confusing as were starting to discuss multiple panels now.

are we saying th 11UK hdmi in is 8bit but the new consumers are 10/12 HDMI 1.3?

Sanjin, diff models with and without NeoPDP

Five years ago I bought Panasonic professional plasma TH-42PWD6 with HDSDI + other boards and paid then about EURO 5.000.

It is a great plasma and I'm still using but in a year or two the prices of similar models went half.

Im told theres some online info from Panasonic regarding line up with these monitors, any one have the links please ?

That is what I thought. Thanks Sanjin. And you are using a Dreamcolor correct?

With HDMI 1.3 are you getting 10bit?

thanks!

Could you use one of these,
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/miniconverters/

(SDI out of card to HDMI in 11series) instead of getting the HDSDI board on the display?

Also, I'm considering,

42" 12 series

or

42" 11 series

which is better for color critical work?

Looks like the 11 series come with HDMI onboard, with the 12 it is additional?

just started looking into these..

In terms of calibration, Matrox MXO and many others speak wonders about the ability to calibrate any monitor using the provided proc amps, would these proc amps provide accurate calibration? If not, what do you guys recommend?
