  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is the Panasonic TH-42PF11UK still the plasma monitor of choice?

Not working for 25p...

Not working for 25p...

OK so I've got:

Red rocket - single link hdsdi out - Blackmgic HDlink - DVI-D in on the Plasma

and I get "no signal" when rocketcine x is set to 25p. It works fine when I have 24p or 30p but not 25p....

I know the HDLink works on that setting because it runs fine into a 24" Dell monitor.

I've tried all the rocketcine options (8bit/10bit etc) and nothing.

Does anyone know if this is a limitation of the plasma (manual seems to suggest it should work)?

I'm trying to avoid having to buy the HDMI or SDI modules!

25P works fine on our display and the handbook confirms this as well.

Just checked again.

http://www.events-eurodocument.com/img/data/42_FHD__PANA_UK1.pdf

In HD it all appears fine at 25P.

In SD for some reason 25P seems unsupported via DVID and HDMI, if you check the HDSDI line then theres also unsuported formats where youd expect support. So this may be bogus info on the data sheet as I don't believe they are not supported as we have checked them out and they work fine.

Thanks Dave

I'll test running 25p via a blackmagic card to eliminate the red rocket. I suspect it's something to do with the HD Link box...(although that works in to mt Dell 24" monitor which suggests it's ok....).

Cheers

Jeff,

The other thing I am still trying to get an answer on is 10bit support. It may be academic in the new cards are OK but trying not to get caught on it. Pana say the older HDMI board was V1.2A and does support 10bit ie deep colour, however the HDMI 1.2A spec says 1.2A doesnt support depp color. The new cards do support V1.3 and do support Deep colour. Im guessing that DVI-D is only 8bit capable.

Id be interested to know how you get on with the Red Rocket.

Hey Dave,
When you say new HDMI card are you talking about the "Panasonic TY-FB10HMD Dual HDMI Board for 10-Series Professional Plasma Displays"

If so, the possibility of getting 10bit HDMI 1.3 into a PF11 would be sweet. It's strange that Panasonic is so dodgy on this issue.

I think this card is the older HDMI 1.2A board but youd need to check what the actual product description says.

The spec is a clear as mud or more specificaly doesnt say....

Ive just mailed Panasonic to clarify. ill mail back here when I a response.

I've just heard back from Panasonic who confirm the following.

I've heard back from Panasonic now about this. They say the dual HDMI FB10HMD card should only support 8 bits. This was not as previously stated at 10 bit support. The next card due to be released is thought to be HDMI 1.4 which the spec says supports greater than 10bit.
