Hi guys!
I am sorry if this has already been asked, but is RedRay DCP compliant? or will it be compliant via firmware/hardware upgrade??
Thanks!

DCP is one way. I think we'll see .RED be a viable option when compared to DCP. At least that's what it looks like it's designed to do.

The reason I'm asking is cause there's a mayor player here in Asuncion, who's gone RedRay crazy (4k, 3D, 96fps you know the feeling) and he's really looking forward for the proyector, in order to change his current 2K Barco proyection- Dolby server system in 8 theaters.. But he's asking me if RedRay and Red Proyector will work as a DCP compliant and validated system.. I really wish to think so, as I can't really imagine any other way RED would reach theaters who are currently receiving 2K DCP movies and trailers from the studios..

He also mentioned something about some Texas Instrument chip, which is a must in any proyector in order to be validated as DCP compliant by the organization in charge of that mumbo jumbo.. really looking forward to receive some oficial data on this, as it would be a deal breaker..

For the umpteenth time, yes, it's supposed to be and we've been told that it will be DCP compliant as REDRAY PRO is meant as a drop-in piece of equipment for existing digital cinema setups and screening rooms in addition to post-production facilities.

The projector shpuld play back material from a DCP server just fine.

RedRay is however not in any way I have managed to read, a DCP/P3 server

it is a .red Server/decoder (+ h.264 and I'd vager it would be smart to think about h.265 as a future update)

But no jp2k/p3 specs mentioned anywhere I have seen (or mpeg2 for that sake, even though I am not sure if that is still part of the DCI specs...)

I would love it if it were capable of acting as a DCP server, but RED hasn't said that they are planning on it. I personally would be happy to pay extra for a module that opened it up to doing this though!

You can't just hook up a projector to a DCP server and expect it to work. The output of a DCP server is secured for piracy protection. So Red would have to accomodate this in their projector if you want the Red projector to play nice with a DCI cinema server.

Whether the Red Ray player will play DCP's remains to be seen. Thus far Red hasn't shown great interest in following existing standards, rather inventing their own.

And although most DCI compliant projectors use the Texas Instruments chips, Sony has DCI certifiied projectors using their own SXRD technology.
