  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is it possible to connect ALL of these accessories to the BMPCC 4K?

To people here who have seen, used, reviewed, operated or do in fact own the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, can you please confirm with absolute certainty (i.e. not guessing) if it is possible to connect all of the below accessories at the same time using the inputs that the camera has? If yes, where and how would you connect each of the below? If input ports are limited to connect all of the below at the same time, is there any tried and tested hub mechanism that can be connected to one of the inputs on the camera and facilitate connecting many other inputs on the hub?

1. External field monitor – e.g. 5 inch or 7 inch
2. Wireless follow-focus mechanism
3. Transmitter to wirelessly transmit video to a director’s hand held (7 inch) monitor and/or a 21 inch monitor
4. Wireless time code transmitter
5. External battery
6. Solid State Drive

Lastly, is there any way to connect an URSA-type EVF (viewfinder) together with all of the above? (Or any similar viewfinder for that matter EXCEPT the "viewfinder" that covers the entire screen of the camera with an eyepiece at the end; I despise those).

This really belongs on the blackmagic forum, not REDUSER.net

It might be marginally ok to buy and sell 3rd-party kit that can be useful in a RED house, but a pure BMD tech support question doesn't belong here.

To be honest, I have had more help here and a chance to get an actual reply compared to the Blackmagic forum unfortunately; hence why I posted this in the off-topic section.

1. over HDMI, yes
2. with a cage a lot is possible, yes
3. see 1.
4. 1 x 3.5mm Stereo Input. Can also be used for Timecode input., yes
5. Blackmagic Pocket Camera Battery Grip and Blackmagic Pocket Camera DC Cable Pack, yes
6. Yes over USB

When you can connect a viewfinder through the External field monitor, yes

BlackmagicDesign has a website and a manual for the BMPCC 4K and they also have a forum.

Misha Engel, thanks for your note. Quite interesting. I will look into the manual. Their forum was not as vibrant as this forum as mentioned.

Since there is only one HDMI port on the camera, do you see difficulty in connecting both 1 and 3 above at the same time?

1) yes, has a full size HDMI port
2) of course, just use 15mm rails
3) yes, just make sure your monitor from #1 has pass through (and depending on what you're using, you might need cross convert as well if it is a SDI transmitter)
4) huh???? That doesn't make sense at all.... do you mean a receiver?? I'd suggest just buy a Tentacle Sync E or an Ultrasync ONE and call it a day.
5) yes, you have a 12V 2 pin Lemo connection.
6) yes, the Samsung T5 SSD is a popular choice.
7) yes, just remember my point from #3 (and by daisy chaining a lot together then remember each will introduce a small lag. So place the most critical one first in the chain)

David Peterson, many thanks for replying to my posts. I am learning a lot!
