  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is baby red ever going to hatch?

Hi All,

I've been following the RED progress for sometime now with great enthusiasm but taking in consideration that lately I have more or less dedicated my self to personal projects instead of paid gigs having a RED one would not really be justifiable for me...BUT there's been some official reports about a "red pocket cam" (aka baby Red) followed by some speculation threads here and there that got me very very excited. I currently own a Canon Xh-A1 and I was wondering how much better would this new Red camera be. Is there any additional technical specifications, details, etc? I think there's a world of filmmakers out there that would like to hear more about it.

P.S - This is my first post so I don't really know if I'm posting in the right place or not
 
It has been officially mentioned, but I would give it some time. They're still knee-deep in the release of their first camera ever - there are currently only 100 production models in existence on the planet - and until things get more or less up to speed I would imagine their hands are going to be more than full. When there is some more information available about the RED-mini (probably around NAB '08?), you will definitely see discussion about it here!
 
Hi Rawfa, Welcome to reduser.

The RedMini was announced at Nab earier this year but very little fact has been put about. Merely speculation on the part of the board members for the most part. If there has been any official info then I don't recall reading it.

Comparisons to the SI-2K Mini is the most obvious in my book.

Hehe, I think we're all wAAAAY too used to things progressing overnight. I'm waiting to see what happens with the 4K projectors and screens and such too. But lets face it. We're probably talking 2009 onwards for RED to even start working on that sort of thing.

Häakon, could you please tell us your reference for the "official mention". Was it only at the last NAB or has there been any other RED TEAM word on this issue?

Not those of us who've been hanging around here for awhile.

I would think by now most of us have gotten pretty used to the fact that when it comes to RED, things are going to take a little time and patience.

What's that saying about Quality versus Quantity?

Before we start thinking about any eggs hatching ( RedMini ) lets wait for the RED GODS to first finish creating the Roosters and the Hens, no?

Man, I just read my own post and realized how much of a REDneck I must come across as. LOL. HOT DAMN!
 
I agree, a 2k 1080p with 35mm sensor and inerchangeable lenses would be great!!! Id also like to see the camera be able to modify depending on your needs, like how the REDone is so versitle.

Red hasn't delevered a Red (((ONE))) with even half the options.......lets see ... it Goes 1 first then........????

Hmmm, how about a camera similar to the Silicon Imaging SI-2K Mini in concept and size with 2k 1080p with 35mm sensor and interchangeable lenses ... however the vital characteristic to be found in the child of the RED ONE will be that the camera controls and the record device are on-board or at least lightweight and close by. The media files are going directly to a card or drive instead of an other camera or a computer. That's what I would like to see manifested.

Seriously now, since INDEED the RED ONE has not arrived, yet still trusting that the cameras WILL be delivered soon enough to the exact specifications and design ... what else it there to do but to dream of what's next?

Because soon enough there will be no more time for dreaming ... only time for the RED ONE working.

I hope to gosh that they come out with the 4k monitor before they even start thinking about a mamn diniRed.
