Hello,
I'm looking for someone with actual dragon experience to get their thought on IR issues with the new sensor. Are you still needing IRND's or is a standard ND good to go? Say, with shooting at a T1.8 in broad daylight.
Thanks in advance,
trey

As John Marchant and Phil Holland have documented, my experience is that there is no need for IR filtering on the Dragon under any condition I have practically shot

Phil stated in previous threads that there was something big coming in ND for RED at NAB this year. Not sure from which manufacturer but maybe he can give us an update when he gets back from Korea this weekend.

Damn... So many reasons to want Dragon and so few dollars...

yeah, no more brownish-purple to CC out in post! It's awesome.

There's color shift but nothing uncorrectable.

Correct. Nothing uncorrectable, however, entirely not needed especially if you are concerned with getting good color straight out of the camera. I feel with certain IR filters and Dragon you might effect "color purity" even though the image can be corrected technically speaking.

Short answer. Just use regular NDs with Dragon.

Anything specific to check out at NAB?

Hi Phil,

Have you tested the Schneider IRND's?

Also, which 1/4 wave retarder are you using with Motion Mount, or R U using a workaround, please?

Thank you very much

Yes, they render a green tint as expected, also as Mario's test displays.

I'm using both the 45 and 0 degree Schneider 1/4 Wave Retarders. I think I've used the 0 degree "more" with the Motion Mount, but honestly you rotate them as needed for the circular polarizer effect you desire.

I have all of my IRND and Hot Mirror/Combo filters still, but I'm shooting with regular NDs on Dragon. All I brought with me this last trip was a Schneider ND 1.2 to handle some daylight shooting and that's literally the most neutral ND from any brand I have.
