iPhone App Raises the Bar for Auto-HDR

Pro HDR for iPhone.

This is the real deal guys. RED should use it as a point of quick comparison in their EPIC HDR testing. What I particularly like is how it determines the range to use for the two exposures. Better even than Photomatrix Pro (if you can believe it) as far as I'm concerned and lots easier.

Anyone else download and try it out?

Yes, I did.

I did it because I wanted to improve the pictures on my 3GS too, and the 3GS didn't got the HDR function that iPhone 4 got.

Generally I'm very satisfied with the results, but the subjects can't move to much, otherwise you see ghosting, and it takes a while to analyse the scene. But I'm glad I bought it.

I do think that RED's HDR functions different and better though, looking at the screenshot Jim posted.

No, I don't think it is better than what Photomatix Pro does!

But it does do a great job for an iphone.

These are my first tests doing HDR with a DSLR and Photomatix.

Here's a few shots from my iPhone using the Pro HDR app. I LOVE IT! Pretty amazing stuff... As you can see, like in the third photo, the app sometimes has trouble aligning the two images when you're hand holding the phone.

Really tasteful examples of what HDR can do. Cant wait to do this in motion at 5k raw with great lenses...

Here are a few different looks captured in HDR Pro on my iPhone 4.

Holy HUGE images, Batman! Yikes Ian, haha.

Here's one I just snapped in my backyard a few min. ago. I'm going to dub HDR "sunset mode" on my Epic, haha.
