  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

iPhone 4 at my front door, Fedex strikes again..

OK, I was lied to...

Both AT&T's and Apple's press releases for the iPhone4 claimed that those who currently had the $30/month unlimited data plan would be able to retain it when upgrading to iPhone4. Not true I guess. Not that it's a deal breaker for the wife's phone, but now it's $25/month and we're capped at 2GB. Seriously, I doubt she will come close to that. But it's the principle of the whole deal. Come on AT&T, get your shit together. Beef up your network. With the money we're all paying for the iPhones and the millions of customers flocking to your network, you would think upgrading to handle data requirements and to fix all the dropped calls wouldn't be that big of a deal.

If Apple ships a CDMA iPhone, I'm going back to Verizon the instant it's available. AT&T can bite my ass.

BTW, the new iPhone 4 is awesome. Signal seems fine here so far, but haven't left home yet. Nice and snappy. Love the screen. Wife just took it away from me, though.. Ah, well.. It's her's anyway, she upgraded from the original iPhone 4GB.

Awesome. From one iphone 4 to another...

2nd that talk about Verizon...wasn't so fond of them when I was on that network, but that mostly had to do with high bills and crap phones. But I had service EVERYWHERE, no dropped calls. Now I still have high bills, but a cool phone (if you can call it a phone, since call quality and consistency seem to be it's greatest shortcomings).

Jeff, I'm with you 100%! I would pay anything they wanted to get rid of AT&T and never have to deal with them again in my life.

My reception is so bad tonight, I went to the AT&T store to investigate buying a MicroCel unit (you know, the thing they make you buy to get the signal you should have already!). As expected from the worst company around, it's only available for residential. Thanks for nothing AGAIN, AT&T. They are terrible.

They also owe me $900 after billing me 3 months after I left them for my business for no apparent reason. Unbelievable.

But man, I love the iPhone...I just wish it would make calls!

Kevin

Sorry to hear about all the issues some of you are having wit AT&t, I have ben with them for years, and I have to yet have a problem, reception on the new iPhone4 is way better then before, and off course the fact that the sound off the phone its self and its speaker is amazing also helps.

The more I play with the iPhone 4 the more I love it, pics downloaded to iPhoto and to the phone, that I had taken with the 1Ds III, are truly amazing, so sharp and full of contrast and color, I can't believe!!

We need RETINA LCD's on all our monitors, he he Oh and iPAd too, but we know that will be on the new version, he he, first they need to make money on us suckers with the first version.

I can't wait to go pickup my preorder tomorrow. I saw a video shot on Boing Boing that looked really impressive for something this small. I've always wanted a small video camera to carry around at all times as carrying a dslr or a Red can be impracticable for everyday use. It will be interesting having this avenue now. My friend had his iphone 3GS at the perfect time and will probably get a nice settlement check from the LAPD because of this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl7WWkQrkyo

Rick, I totally agree. These gadgets are... democracy.

I have no need for an iPad. But if they put a Retina display on the next version I would buy one in a second.

I'm currently at the apple store here in Tulsa, Ok. Stupidest setup for the line they could've had it.

I'd still wait in line rather than pre-ordering if I were to do it all over again. It's my first time to wait in line for a product and I'm a people person too, so I like meeting new people.

Ketch, PM me your phone # and I can call you when I get mine. :D

A couple of local news channels have already interviewed me about it. haha!

It's ridiculous. They were letting pre-orders to walk-ins take their order at a ratio of 75:1 then 50:1 and then finally 10:1. I was 6th in line, and by the time it was my turn people who had pre-ordered were walking off the street to pick theirs up. (after I had waited 10 hours, success just finally came. :p

Okay,
Got my phone, dig the screen, hate AT&T, could never wait in line but am still happy to have it... Now that that's out of the way...

How do I build a custom theme for the iMovie app? I've built themes for Final Cut before using a combo of Photoshop, AE and Motion. Anyone got an idea how to do it?

All the reports of the phone shattering after 1 drop are scaring me away from this thing. I mean what do you expect, it's a phone made out of GLASS! Also, I'm seeing all these videos of the reception dropping off 100% if you hold the phone wrong?! Something about your hand completing a circuit between two of the three external antennas... And now reports of some screens having yellow blotchy discoloration? I think I'll wait until next year's revision.

WOW, its time to back away from the keyboard. Typical Reduser paranoia and blowing reports out of proportion.
1. Most reviews stated they dropped the phone with little or no damage. I have only seen one report of broken glass.
2. Holding the phone does not result in 100% of reception dropping off. Holding the phone results in slightly less reception (which is still obviously a problem). How did you translate this to 100%??

I have to say... there is nothing wrong with waiting a bit to buy new hardware. I rarely buy the first generation of any new design.

The call dropping issue might just be a bug cleared with an update... but I have seen several videos showing a consistent issue with failed calls depending on how the phone is held. That bottom Left corner seems to trigger it. Odd for sure.

Apple really screwed up with this reception issue. I think they are going to sell a lot of bumpers to people worried about their reception sucking.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you accidentally switched it to the 2gb plan during the pre-order process as I, and everybody else I know, have had no problems keeping our unlimited plans.

I did change my wife to the 200mb plan though as she averages about 50mb of data usage per month.

The reception issue has to do with holding the iPhone in your left hand where your hand is touching both antennas at the same time (which is NOT good) as the antennas connect on the lower left. If you hold the phone in your right hand or use the bumper, problem solved.

Got mine this morning. Trying to run-and-build my first iPhone 4 specific app on the device right now. :)
