  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

iPad Mission Control COLOR MONITORING question

I also spoke to someone at the booth regarding the iPad app, and he mentioned it would work over WiFi, but it was being "buggy" (my word, not his) at the show due to all the WiFi signals present, so he had it hardwired in through what may have been ethernet, didn't get a good look. BUT, my point is, it should work through WiFi, with no mention of latency, as it is primarily metadata settings (though there do seem to be some camera controls enabled possibly?), there shouldn't be much lag to speak of.

I believe the latency concern was related to sending a picture back to the iPad from the camera, not the ability to control settings, etc. This is a feature that is not currently in the app but, obviously, would be a real win. And, as far as the hook-up at NAB, if I understood correctly, the iPad was sending a Wi-Fi signal not directly to the camera, but to a router that was right under the counter and hooked to the camera. And, again, I could have misunderstood and would love to have clarification from RED. (In due time, I imagine.) :001_smile:

Yes, it will match with Epic as the internal camera processing is designed to round trip with RMDs.

This would be fantastic. Is this implemented in the Epics and RCX versions out there in the wild now?

So what you're saying is that if I dial a look in camera while monitoring live what I am shooting, then it will match exactly in color and contrast when I open that file in RCX and view on a rocket to the same monitor without any further adjustments??

An update on my initial question: the monitor out on the Epic matches the a rocket hd sdi out. This means you see an image on the hd sdi out of the epic with any metadata applied that you have dialed in, and if you shoot a clip and load it into a rocket system and directly output it via hd sdi with the camera metadata applied it will exactly match the image you were monitoring on set. This is huge, and opens opportunities for look presets, adjustments, remote live grading in camera, etc, etc.
