  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

iPad 3

I'm holding out for the 5K version . . .

Would be nice to have the Red app for the new ipad at NAB 2012?

I don't like all Cook's talk about a "post-pc world". Like Cioni said, the writing is on the wall for Apple to get out of making computers. Hopefully it will be at least a few years before they do. Personally I find the tone of this announcement depressing.

Quotes:
"I’d like to get started by talking about the post-PC revolution, and Apple is at the forefront of leading this revolution."
"We're talking about a world where the PC is no longer the center of your digital world. A world where the devices you use the most need to be more personal and more portable than any PC has ever been."
"Apple has three post-PC devices: iPod, iPhone, iPad."
"Apple has its feet firmly planted in the Post-PC future."
"The post-PC world plays to our strengths."

Resolution higher then 1080 to come to the iPad... I'm not usually one to be a redhead or hate on other cameras buuuuut.... I would be nervous if I was a 1080p camera maker. I mean even higher resolution will be next. Man I sure do love the future!

I just hope 2k portable onset monitoring is next. Sure wish the IPAD had a mini hdmi in.

Apple will continue making PCs for a long time to come. They will just be different. Intel and Apple are done. Apple will merge iOS and OS X and move completely to ARM. Macbooks will start looking much more like iPad with keyboard/trackpad. As soon as 6 months from now there will be Windows 8 notebooks running on ARM SoCs with keyboard, trackpad, touch and even touchless natural user interfaces. Asus has already shown off a notebook with Kinect in-built. It can do everything from reading your hand gestures (everything you saw in Minority Report is coming by Christmas 2012) to reading your eyeballs and lips. There are a few Xbox 360 Kinect games which read your lips already. Anyway, that is going off-topic, but that is where the world is headed.

Just chatting this over with some staff at our design agency.... It is pretty incredible news and surely brings in the age of super HD.

You have to think that Apple will want to go with the retina display across the board of products? How can they justify having a 9" screen with better resolution than their 21" iMac? Surely a 4K+ touchscreen iMac is on the cards now?

A dream for you film makers.... a nightmare for us designers! I've just designed a site that has to scale from 2k to 480px and still look good. Not easy! Going form 4K to 480px would be ridiculous.

It definitely believe the next iMac will be a killer in resolution, but I kind of hope they don't make it a touchscreen!

Don't get hung up on what they call it. Computing technology will continue to advance rapidly. They can call it a cyborg box for all I care. Marketing is marketing.

I'm torn.... Imagine a rotatable/moveable screen that could have ipad style games..... Air hockey on a 50" Ipad? Sounds good. :tongue_smilie:

I could see it having good potential for editing, grading etc too.

Yep, hardware is getting very powerful with smartphone companies now announcing quad-core. Also; where do companies invest for UI development going forward? Metro, Mac, HTML5, proprietary.

I imagine Epic/Scarlet footage is going to look pretty good on a 2K iPad:)
There are moments after spending a bit to much time on my iPhone 4 when I think there is something wrong with the screen on my MacBook Pro or iPad . I have never seen a pixel on an iPhone 4 ... Wish all monitors looked that good.

I like the resilution but why do they not support more thsn 1080p video?
I think it have power for higher res. Then most will only use 1080p but i think they should
Support higher. Still no hdmi on it right?! Hate adapters. Otherwise i think it sounds great.

Good luck with that. Without the infrastructure of iTunes, it's an uphill battle.

"Post PC" doesn't mean the "end" of personal computing.

Its about a change in the paradigm of what it means to compute.

The "new iPad" has a lot more processing power than a PowerMac G5. I wouldn't be surprised if the new iPad is as fast as early Core 2 Intel iMacs.

The near future is going to be about changing how we compute.

I've spent my life dealing with computers ... the last 34 years, since I took apart and reassembled my Atari (no number - the original) has been spent as a "computer expert." The common thread? Change. Radical and rapid change. More than that its change that happens at an increasing rate.

What hasn't changed until recently is the way we, humans, interact with our computers.

That is changing.

I think the "Mac Pro" is about to change to support this. I bet that Apple is looking at ways for all the iPads in an office to leverage a Mac Pro, and I bet they are looking at the client server processing model of UNIX and Plan 9.

In addition to iPad 3, I think we can expect MacBook Touch.

Now, really a MacBook Touch might, at best, be an Ivy Bridge version of the MacBook Pro 17". As a hardware system, that's modestly interesting as an evolutionary product.

However, an iPad or MacBook that can seamlessly offload processing to a Mac Pro on the network is another vastly more interesting thing.

Post PC means stuff like that.

It means not building edit suites around IT infrastructure, but rather around clients, displays/monitors and interfaces.

It means working more fluidly in the field ... including rough assemblies on the same iPad you are using as a wireless director's monitor.

I have never been interested in a big expensive computer for its own sake ... I am only interested in how and what I can do.

Post PC means moving away from the limitations inherent in "PC"

They probably won't incorporate 1080p+ until it can be done without wasting a boat-load of battery power. Also, it doesn't matter how high the resolution if it's running at some crap 1.5mbit compression; it'd still look like poops (unless they implement some entirely new type of compression).
