  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the RED V-Raptor XE

Oh wow, you're right about the reporting on the upgrade. I do see that in the Pro Video Coalition article.

"Future Upgrades
V-RAPTOR XE owners who later want to expand to the V-RAPTOR [X] feature set will be able to have their XE camera fully upgraded.

“RED remains committed to developing a robust lineup of advanced, high-quality, and reliable cinema cameras—and to making them broadly accessible to filmmakers at every level,“ added Oishi."

If that's true it actually does make me more inclined to look at the XE.
This is originally from the RED product page and effectively true:

...scroll down.

I really hope one of the things we see from the Nikon acquisition is some sort of new approach to software that allows all new cameras to boot much much faster. Just one of those QOL things that is a no brainer if it can be done.

It's for sure a hardware upgrade, not just a higher quality firmware, therefore I'd expect the overall price correlating to a price that is higher than that of the "native" V-Raptor [X], like XE + Upgrade fee > X. Similar to how upgrading V-Raptor to V-Raptor [X] went. Alternatively, selling the XE elsewhere and buying a new X then might be a better deal.
