I am excited to have received our first "INSANE" RED SHOULDER RIG System, AKA "Clutch" ;)

There are many more pieces to the system including adaptors to mount the RED ONE.

I'll keep it short, the guys @ RED definitely had captured some ALIENS as this work does not seem to be made by any HUMANS ;)

Haha, all I can say is "whooooaaaaaaaaaaa!" I remember seeing this at Red Day last April. I was wondering when we'd start seeing accessories get out the door. What's the weight on that, Ketch? Looks like aluminum? Can't wait to see some pics of this in action...

wicked. Can't see the underside but I'm assuming you can attached a quick release plate to it and clip this straight onto your tripod too?

PS can you post this with a monitoring solution too? Be interested to see where you mount an LCD.

See Jarred's Post from other thread re:cost.

Jason

$7000? It looks really awesome, and I'm sure the complexity merits the cost, but this may be a hard expense to justify for a camera that weighs 5 pounds. For that price you could buy:

Element Technica Mantis __________________$2000
Element Technica Dual Studio Base Plate Kit ___$1200
Easyrig 2.5 _____________________________$2800
RED Carbon Fiber Mattebox________________$1200

Total______$7200

Just thinking out loud.

Thank you for sharing all these good news with the community Ketch. :-)

I have always wondered if the shoulder mount on this attached photo could be the RED shoulder mount... Could it be ?

I'm sure there are a lot of people who would love to see a picture of this rig utilizing a Bomb EVF ... and one incorporating a new LCD.

:yesnod:

...What's the weight on that, Ketch?

Its just under 7lb fully configured ;)

Plenty of pics will be coming of it in Action ;)

Looks great, are the three holes in the center of the handle extension threaded- for LCD/EVF mounting?

All the holes any were on the Top and bottom of the Handle as well as all over the Clutch as well as in the DogBones are for mounting anything you want, including the LCD and or EVF ;)

LOVE IT!!

Hey Ketch,

Is that Dovetail interchangable with the ET / Arri Dovetails?

Looks awesome.

Steve

Yes Arri Standard, but I find the New RED Base Plate with the Quick Release Pro a new Experience in mounting and dismounting super fast.

Yeah with the Quick Release Pro its super easy to unlock and mount it any were, for this I have it with 3 Base Plates one of which
is smaller and can be mounted directly any were you want and leave it there, while the other two are for sliding on a Standard Arri
Dovetail, but again here I like much more the thinner profile and much lighter weight of the new RED Dovetails as well.

Monitor solutions on the Clutch are so many and you will see them all in upcoming shoots in the BTS ;)

Wow! Are those 19mm or 15mm rods?

19mm ;)

Ketch, what sliding dovetail is that on the base plate in the picture under the Gunner?

Yes one of the two RED dovetails, I got, super light and super cool ;)

Thank you for sharing all these good news with the community Ketch. :-)

Most welcome Stefan, a pleasure to share with the Community ;)

All coming ;)

Few pics been posted here: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=55478

Forgive me if the photo angles just aren't showing it, but that mini dovetail - does it have safety locks so the camera can't slide off either end in the event the main lock is bumped off etc?

Thanks for the photos Ketch!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul

Thanks Paul,

no, this current version of the Red Dovetail, does not have any locks on either side, to prevent the camera to slide off once the
release mechanism is pushed Released, but since this is a Prototype that the guys at Red give me to play with, I am sure that the
production units will have it, obviously screwing one Allen Bolt at one end of it is the easily part, same as int he ones form ET,
but a push release one will most likely be added by Red on the entry point,

However, if you look closely, the Leveler once becomes Pushed lock, it remains in Parallel position with the EPIC SSD Module,
therefor making it impossible to bump in to it and accidentally release it and making the camera slide off ;)

Re: Cost

As Jarred mentions, there are extra pieces in Ketch's picture, so I don't think a single shoulder rig system as configured in the other two pictures (without all the extra pieces laid out) would cost $7000.

In the first picture, there's an extra adapter plate, two extra quick release plates (which seem to be the most complex pieces in the system, and likely the most expensive single bits shown), one of which is on a sliding bridgeplate that looks similar to ET's hybrid, a dovetail, amongst other things (including what looks like a carbon fiber rod).

The point being that without all the extras, this could be a $4-5k system as configured in the other pics, maybe even less (crossing fingers). Also keep in mind that this system is modular and could, from the looks of things, negate the need for other items in your standard kit, like an ET hybrid bridgeplate ($900 last I checked)...so it could mean a more compact and versatile system, no? Less overall pieces that allow more configuration options. Very in-line with the modular DSMC concept.

Of course, this is all speculative and I welcome any info from those in the know about what costs what, etc.

Had a chance to hang out a bit with Ketch today. I must say, the new RED handheld system is badass. The chest and back support pads can adjust to your body and keeps the camera secure enough that you can let go hands free.
