And yes, two camera announcements back to back. The new Nikon Zr. Full frame, 60 fps @ 6K resolution featuring some influence of the RED workflow with the colorspace we all know so well + REDCODE RAW NE with 32-bit audio to boot.

Okay, now this is maybe the most intriguing camera I have seen in a very long time... I'm not seeing on the spec page what resolution it does at 120fps, do you know by chance?

Redcode in this body form factor and only 1.18lbs.... this gives me ideas... The size of current brains is what has made it only a wish to skydive with any decent anamorphic on a red sensor.

But with this... the Atlas 21mm might just be possible... For sure jumping with the widest Mercury just opened up as a cakewalk.

I really want to see that footage exist. I gotta get my hands on one.

Wow. This looks really impressive. I'm watching the CVP video about the camera right now. In answer to your question, @AJ Aguirre, it can do 120fps at 4k with a Super 35 crop. In the full frame 6k it can still do 60fps.

Very interesting. I guess an Orion 21 would be about perfect. The Mercury would be interesting for sure too even at that crop.

Man just a handful of larger AMAZING lenses just opened up as a possibility to capture some free fall art with utilizing redcode...

Gears are turning

It's an instant pre-order for me. Last time I pulled the trigger right away after the announcement was for the original Scarlet-X. Similar feelings and level of excitment now.

Can't wait to get my Baby-RED.

This was the missing part in the lineup and offers new possibilities.

Unfortunately it looks more like a rehoused, refirmwared Z6III. I know, others do the same but this does not mean it is a good idea. I would have expected a nikon-style top-screen (for iris, fps, shutter, iso...) and a back side mounted but top-foldable screen what will be a great help for run'n gun and selfi-shooting because you are looking into the screen / lens not sideways. Further on 125 min recording time is a bit short if you want to use it for streaming, discussions, events.

Can please anybody explain the difference of r3d ne compared to hq, mq, lq and elq?

How will dual-iso be managed with r3d when according to RED ISO is only metadata?

It's a 1st step with currently available sensors and tech. Considering the price it's an intriguing option.
This product space will develop with time.

For many reasons Komodo OG and above is still going to be the direction people will want for filmmaking.

ZR still seems like a decent gateway camera for filmmaking particularly at that price.
Very surreal. This would have been a fever dream a couple of years ago.

I saw one video where I believe the data rate was said to be close to 200 MB/s at 6K 23.98. I believe that is between HQ and MQ.
This needs to be confirmed.
R3D NE is also 12bit instead of 16bit for R3D and there are no compression rate options.

How will dual-iso be managed with r3d when according to RED ISO is only metadata?

Gemini was also dual ISO and it was naturally recognized in RED Cine X and in the SDK so I imagine similar for this camera.

I was expecting a FX3 with R3D, but I was wrong. Apparently both team at RED and Nikon believed that copy cat approach doesn't cut it, so decided to make something different. The clear message here is "you don't need external monitor" and "you don't need bulky air cooling system to have world's best raw codec". Of course they had to accept some compromises to achieve that, but at least the result is something unlike any other option in the market. I'm sure Nikon alone, as a conservative company, wouldn't ok this risky move. RED's influence is clear.

I have to ask if anyone at Red gave input on this camera.. because there's a list of compromises..
Micro HDMI, no mounting points, can't tilt the screen if you use any of the ports, card slot is in the battery compartment, and you can't use Red Log3G10 with any other codecs, and the mic gets in the way of using a top handle.

R3D also seems to be the only Red feature? No monitoring features?

price is gread. Thats true. Makes it hard not to take it into account.

In case of recording time I recently had the situation with more then 2 hours for a discussion and was happy having the K-X combined with the BMPCC4K they both did the job well. But yes, it may not daily business for the most ZR aimed users ;-)

you'll find it in the specs https://www.nikonusa.com/p/zr/2006/overview#tech-specs
but a technical explanation by RED / Nikon would be great. May in a way of an update at the RED 101 pages. I assume we need to update Redcine X pro as well.

haven't know this. That's really forward thinking. Maybe I'm now at the right side of the camera world.

Yeah, baby! This one might just be the one I've been hoping for. Priced right and with a decent sized built-in screen. Very nice!

IMO this curb stomps everything else purely because of REDCODE

I have never met a milky image I’ve fallen in love with other than with redcode or an arri.

From the test footy you can seeeeee the redcode.

Omg I can’t wait.

This has its unhinged applications where a larger brain is impractical

I pre-ordered one at 430am LOL. Having some reservations, ie. micro HDMI, media in the battery comp, no tc or pro audio in the body, but mostly concerned about the lack of quality choices in r3d. File sized are going to be massive (according to Gerald Undone) in the Redcode RAW NE... Still having an image of that quality for 2199 is very impressive...

Wow.
We just finished setting up our virtual hall studio and were planning to buy 4 pcs of Raptor X.
Yesterday we were very impressed with the new Raptor Xe because we can save half the price on the original Raptor X.
Today we see Nikon | Red ZR ( Full Frame for $2,200 ) and now we want to go into standby mode because the rules of the game are changing too quickly.
Perfect

According to Jared Polin it does have TC support, but I don't see a way to jam TC into the body besides the 3.5mm audio port?

I refuse to order this unless I can also have it in Bayhem slime green. Seriously though, this looks great. Can't wait to play with one.

The TC support is an interesting question. I can see a few possibilities. The 3.5mm is probably a multi-function I/O.

BH Q&A mentioned bluetooth TC. Not sure exactly how that would work... It would be nice if they added traffic lights, too

I wounder how 12bit will work in r3d. TC is also a big question mark. But for that price it's a really amaizing camera and rolling shutter seems really impressively. good. How long does the EN-EL15c battery power the camera?
