  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing RANGER Gemini and RANGER Helium

This is interesting for sure! I am not really sure I would want to trade in my DSMC2 Gemini. The ability to pop on the jetpack expander and put it in a car or on a gimbal is so useful. If anything I just want to have a Ranger Gemini in addition to the regular one haha.

I think it’s safe to assume that customers swapping between regular and Ranger body is likely not possible? I would personally love to have the ranger body available for a regular shoot and the ability to swap back to a standard body for more specialized stuff. But I would imagine swapping the entire body isn’t something you want customers doing on their own.

Amazing to see these at such a good price compared to the normal variants!!
Birth of the Modular chassis cinema camera

Jarred, did you guys consider making the purchasable Rangers with sidekick side modular so one could use Teradek MDR.ACI for instance ? Or it would have required too much of a redesign of the Ranger body?

BTW awesome news Ranger can now be purchased. You're gonna make a lot of people happy.

anythings possible :) You just need to either have deep pockets or you need to get a willing army together to make it happen :)
Honestly, is it possible to get a Komodo into my hands, my dream is to have a backpack sized RED kit that I carry every fucking where. I know... I know....
Not too old to still dream

amazing... this might be the heaven of cameras, if there is one.....

This is no complaint. Im happy where I’m at, so even if the ranger upgrade was offered for monstro owners I would like to keep mine as is. As the Vlock module is all I need on my camera, I prefer it small and try not to rent it out to bigger productions that looks for a studio setup.

But for all those Monstro owners out there that would like to upgrade to ranger and paid 80K USD for thier monstros... I can only think this must sting more than a little bit. First the got hit by a quite drastic price drop and now, all but them is getting the option to go ranger.

As paying 15USD to go from monstro dsmc2 to helium does not sound logical at all.

Then what about the option of having any sensor available on the shelf at red service center. Can one go: Gemini to Gemini ranger and then swap sensor to Monstro and all of a sudden be in the exclusive rental only vip club? :)

Bjorn you can upgrade your Monstro to a Monstro Ranger, you just need to do it through your preferred authorized rental house... they control Monstro Rangers.

+1
always a bloodbath ...
The times of REDONE and EPIC were so beautiful with 5k updates at most ...
Everything now loses a lot of money within 6 months ... as long as you spend 3-5k usd you can stay when you spend 30-40k or 80k being dangerous.
Especially when now 90% of productions don't want RED anymore.
I hope this situation recovers ...
I will retain only Monstro, I consider it the best camera on the market, the rest will sell and I will go to the new ALexa mini LF and the new 4k coming soon ..
Even if I don't like it it makes a lot more money without a doubt and the productions now only want that.

Crazy thought, is it possible to put Dragon 6K guts in a ranger body, kind of a custom build for mortals???

Two things hold me from going Ranger :

- 6k Dragon (that I love)
- Possibility to use the Rtmotion sidekick.

The bigger fan and cooling is a big thumbs up! The price is also very interesting.
Is there a way to upgrade from Weapon MG 6k Dragon to Gemini Ranger?

This looks like a great package, the only problem I have is that there is no way to make use of an internal ND solution (like the one that'll be coming from Tilta ) since you cannot disassemble the lens mount.
I'd like to use a RED but I'm more into run&gun, fast-paced ENG/doc stuff, so I don't get much time when it comes to change the ND settings (not a huge fan of dual polarizers).
I cannot use big drop-in filters for matte-boxes nor screw-in filters.

Regards.

Romain.

Whats wrong with the revolva?

I don't think the Ranger uses a "fixed" mount as the pictures show the usual 4 screw detachment design. It may be "fixed" in the sense that a FFD adjustment mechanism is not there. If that's the case, I'm guessing we would need a shimmable EF mount for EF lenses on Ranger...

Cheers - #19

correct... same removable mount. The body doesn't have a backfocus Z adjustment so you use shims on the mount instead to set flange distance.

Does it work on this new fixed mount ?
Ranger doesn't use the DSMC2 lens mount right ?

I don't really know :confused5:

As I understand its not fixed mount but fixed bsckfocus so the mount is chimmed instead of having a sensor backfocus adjustement screw. Atleast I think I have seen pictures of a ranger with a revolva.

edit: yes, jarreds reply right above confirms its so.
