Yes, what was in stock at start of TODAY is gone. But good news is, we are building these EVERYDAY : )

Can I ask for some advice before I jump onto an upgrade?
I shoot mostly commercial advertising stuff but not the $$$ TV budgets.
I deliver all files at the end of a job to a production company who than move jobs to post.
Most producers tell me stuff like "no 6K please can we just do 4K" they simply don't want to deal
with excessive file sizes for HD delivery.

Do I see this right, if I care only about 4 and 5K, the Scarlet-W has a larger sensor (at 4 and 5K)

If I have a "this would be nice in slow motion" situation (it happens even if I heard "no slow motion needed" in planning)
on the Scarlet-W I drop from 5 to 4K which is a 125% zoom (via the cinephotography tool 1,49/1,19)

The same client demand on the Epic-W would mean a 200% Zoom?

Any options to use the full or almost full size of the sensor to get 4 or 5K in RAW?

thanks

If you wanted to go Epic-W Helium your best option would be to shoot 4k Prores.. as it wont crop the sensor.

To have the same fov as SW I suppose you need to shoot in something like 6,5K and get also some good slowmo, as I see the 4k only does 30fps.
I don't think I will film 8K raw at the moment, but still I can use the 9k fov and get the 4k, if I need some slowmo I just crop down, no problem for me...

thanks Spencer, thought so...

so the options are 4K Prores, or dealing with 8K
if I want to shoot 120fps I crop the sensor to 5K size even in Prores as I belive the fps of the recorded
Raw and Prores are always the same.

What is the priority order?

New Purchases -> Scarlet-W -> Dragon/Weapon/Etc. ?

TO everyone worried about their Scarlet-W upgrade order. Remember that if you place your upgrade today it's based on your Scarlet-W timecode not your Epic-W transfer timecode. So as long as your Bomb Squad rep gets it in eventually today you're fine.

thanks Luca,

for me a 200% zoom is a problem, I do mostly studio product shots, motion control and dozens of stands and lights in a small area...
so moving back is not that easy and changing a lens is not aways an option.
difficult choice...

Tools will be updated tomorrow. Requires a deployment which brings the site down for a few minutes. Did not think you guys wanted that today, hehe.

Thanks Brent for your reply !

For sure, a 404 page today is not the good things for lot of people :)

Crop factors and framerates between S-W and E-W are nearly identical, E-W will just be at higher res. Use phfx.com/tools to find info for your specific needs. Great example is that I NEVER shoot fullframe so those framerates and compression ratios don't apply to me. I also never shoot 2.4:1, but do shoot frequent 2:1 for 2.35:1 delivery and will almost always be shooting 7k or lower for my lenses.

I know Martin, I understand but why you need to record 8K Raw? You can just use the 8K fov and shoot in 4k or even in 2k only lol
Most of the work I do with SW I use to shoot in 5K and deliver only pro res

i do not need to shoot 8K Raw, I need to deliver Raw (try exposing moving diamonds without clipping or underexposure) in 4-6K

I think my best setting would be 6K as my standard setup (which is still digestible for most productions) and than living with a 162% zoom (6k to 4k 1.66/1.02) if I switch to 120fps

finger on the epic-w trigger???
