This is a promotional video for a new LED with interchangeable chips and a really wide beam spread. I'm not affiliated, FWIW. But I have to say, I'm glad we have LEDs, because HMIs and tungsten are either inefficient, dangerous, fragile or just plain expensive. If the claims are true, then this is going to take off.

"I want to disrupt the whole industry."

What's the basic story - I didn't feel like watching this guy talk for 48 mins - seems like it just allows you to change the chip. Chip On Board (COB) LEDs have been around for years and now they usually use sockets that if you wanted you could pop out a couple screws and change the chip (the wiring is to the socket not the chip board - contact is made when you screw the COB on) to one with a different color or CRI and many of the drivers can adjust to different voltages and power levels within a range. The most common COBs have a native 120 degree spread, if you want narrower you put an optic in front of it.

I'm not listening to any guy who is trying to tell me about lights and he doesn't know the difference between a grip and an electrician.

Seemed like an interesting idea, but it not really impressed with the execution. The driver is big and heavy and expensive for the output. And the CRI is only 98 for 4000K? Versus 92 for 3200-5600k? Seems like they need to get better emitters.

Not only that, but at 18:15, he makes the outlandish claim that a single Anthem one can somehow replace 2 M18's bounced into a 10x10'. It's disingenuous to imply you no longer need to set up that much grip equipment with Anthem one. Regardless of how much light might be lost after all the bouncing, you can't possibly compare a soft bounced source to a flooded point-source light. Apples to oranges comparison.

I grabbed some screenshots for those that don't feel like spending 40 minutes on this video.

It's a nice design and the idea is sound. Claims are a bit over the top, the Joker 400 has the nicest light from that lot. I suspect there are 2 anthems on at the same time? B&H listed a previous version at $1500 but just for the light and one COB i believe. So in reality it's probably more expensive than you think. I think i'd pick a DS1 over this.

If the new version (the website implies there's a new one coming soon) is cost effective then it could be really useful - it's a nice form factor.

cheers

Only one was on. I have to admit, the wide beam and little falloff is pretty nice for some applications. Its $1500 for the light, and $169 for each color module. The battery powered ones add $999.

Someone needs to tell this guy he is not the first to come up with "his" idea of disrupting the movie lighting industry. He may not even get his intended patent so-to-speak.

Sure this is not exactly the same thing he is claiming to be. However this guy below uses pretty much the same tech but much brighter light output per element.
