  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interchangable OLPFs

any chance you guys could make a video or put up a manual on how to do the modification so us on the fence about doing it ourselves vs. sending it in can better decided.

We will have a video, work instructions, and a tool kit if you choose to do it yourself.

Ok so if I understand it correctly I order both high and lowlight olpf nd the black gloves kit and then send in my old olpf.

From looking at the video swapping it seams like a new brainer, possibly not vice to do in a desert storm or such but a somewhat clean environment I would not worry to much about dust etc.

Email sent to dragonupgrade@red.com

Is that all I can do for now, or should I order on the page or such?

No. See my earlier post. If you want the modification, you contact dragon upgrade support to get an RMA. They will replace your fixed OLPF with a swappable OLPF after doing the modification. Order the ones in store to receive them to use with your camera that has been modified.

Definitely interested in the IR options....

I can see a market for a 1/4 Soft + Low-Con OLPF to appease the "Alexa look" crowd. ;)

Awesome!!! The Dragon became a much better camera! I'm sure more surprises are coming. It's an awesome camera. Thank you is not enough! Thank you very much!

So camera has to be sent in?

See Jarred's OP: "For customers that have taken delivery of a camera with the previous OLPF system we will convert your cameras to the new system for free at any RED Certified Service Centers. If you are not able to send to a service center, contact dragonupgrade@red.com to get a modification kit sent to you for $100. Need to send back your old OLPF to get a credit of $100 to net free modification. Will need to do one-off firmware update to have camera moved from “fixed OLPF” status to “swappable”."

That's only for people with the V2 OLPF and if we have V1 it has to be sent in for the upgrade, right?

That's right. You do not need to send the camera back if you choose. You can do the mod yourself by requesting the modification kit.

I think this broke the Store at Red.com haha. Never mind working now. I'm pretty sure everyone wants both.

Some people with early, early DRAGONS, if they want to go to swappable, it will HAVE to come in because we have to apply a specific factory-calibration in Irvine to make swappable even possible. Those people will get an email shortly from Nick's group saying "if you want swappable, got to come back to the mother ship".

However, everyone else, whether you are v1 (LOW LIGHT OPTIMIZED) or v2 (SKIN TONE-HIGHLIGHT), you can send in or request modification kit. We highly recommend sending in. The modification can be done - but you better have steady hands.

That help?

To add to my last post, if you have LOW LIGHT OPTIMIZED fixed in your camera now and want SKIN TONE-HIGHLIGHT put in at time of making your camera swappable, we will. And vice versa.

Curious, Is a early dragon with olpf1, that was later swapped to olpf2 counted to the category that needs to be sent in?

Correct, drop offs at RSH are performed at Irvine. Depends on queue. Might be able to do same day. I would think drop off one day and get next is a safer bet.

Thanks Brent, two days -- certainly safer, but also 2-3 hours extra on the HYW. ;o) Perhaps the DIY is a good alternative. We will see what works best by then.

Either way, this is again (!) one of those great developments of the RED team, thank you. :o)
