Has anyone had to get insurance on their Red for a trip overseas? What would you recommend for a company and how much is it for something like one month of coverage?

Ask your insurance company you have your camera insured for US, normally it´s cheapest to extend this insurance for other contries for a small fee. At least that´s how it works here in Europe. My camera has insurance for whole Europe and i extended it for 60.- EUR for a one week shooting in Egypt.

If it's a job for hire, the production company should cover you, get an insurance cert.

If it's your company, you really need to have production insurance. If you need a Red, you need a good insurance agent. Otherwise, look forward to the day when your well meaning film student grip drops a light on the head of a passerby who's dad is a lawyer.

We just bought insurance for the year from Hill Usher, and the equipment rider covers the equipment anywhere. Also if you need production insurance (for coverage beyond equipment) for a particular place or shoot that is on a case by case basis. The coverage was about $3,000.00
equipment only was about $1,700.00

Also be careful- we were with another company last year that had a maximum coverage value of $5,000.00 for each piece of equipment and they did not let us know until 8 months into the policy.

guessing insurance is less by the year vs. one month ...
i insured mine for approx $750 year ( 50k... 750 deductable ) .. i then added 3rd party rental & 2 other items for total $1092 year ...all risk worldwide policy
you can get a instant online quote &/or buy it instantly at ...

I would expect to get a policy document within 8 months....

Maunel, Could you please tell me what your insurance company is?

A Telephone number would be great.

If you own your own gear or are renting you should really take a look at www.FilmEmporium.com. They are a great resource for film/video insurance. I use them and have no complaints.
+1. I have used film emporium on a number of shoots and they have been fantastic. Friendly people that make even the worst task of getting insurance somewhat enjoyable and easy to understand. They were able to clarify exactly what coverage we needed and got us the best price. Good people.
