  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inglourious Basterds

Oh I've caught that alright. Can't wait!!! Sometimes one has to take a break from badassery for awhile to reevaluate their goals and priorities, you know?

Oh hell yeah! I'm dying to see IB. And I'm all about badassery, especially of the old school QT brand.

Justin- we should get a bunch of DFW redusers together to go see it when it opens. Be a good excuse for introductions and some after-movie beers. Anyone game?

Totally, just wantd to throw it out there. Besides, from some old threads here and on DVXuser about trying to get people together it seems like it can be pretty tough. So mark your calendars now, kiddos! The circus only comes to town once a year ; p

I'm sure the closer it gets, more talk will pop up. I'll bring it up again then.

Count me in. ;)

Tarantino is a complete whore! But what I love about him is that his passion and love for cinema really kicks you in the face when you watch any of his films. But he is a self-professed molester of genre.

Can't say that I am really anticipating Inglorious Bastards...haven't made up my mind really. I don't know if I can be bothered watching ANOTHER "Nazi's are evil" or "gun ho Americans Save the Day once more" BS. I am a QT fan...but not sure about this one...

Whenever he's on screen. :D

QT The Witty/Snappy Dialog writer = Pure Genius
QT The Story writer = So So.
QT The Actor = Unwatchable and completely not-badass.

It's like Robert Rodriguez' film scores. Please hire a composer I beg of you.

I don't agree with that entirely...he's really hit or miss, but I thought his role in Death Proof was spot on. Besides, I don't know why his cameos would necessarily detract from the badassery of the films as a whole.

Agreed.

Off-the-chart amazing performance by Christoph Waltz.

BTW, Christoph Waltz is an Austrian actor, was born in Vienna... Read more>>>

Movie was good, but it felt about 20-30 minutes too long to me. The scene in the beer basement was awesome.

If I was Tarantino's friend, I would challenge him to make a SERIOUS movie next, with no winks, no nods, no tongue in cheek, just a serious movie.

I don't know about too serious, I mean I loved the "mind if I smoke my pipe too?" part of the opening interrogation scene. Just saying.

I just suspect Tarantino is suffering from some kind of angst that causes him to be afraid of putting out a serious movie that is not filled with in-jokes, winks to the audience, "homages" to other directors, and only takes itself half-seriously.

I realize that "Pulp Fiction" is not 100% straight and serious, but it's more serious than all his subsequent efforts. "Jackie Brown" tried to play it fairly straight-forward, without a lot of winks and nods, and when that film failed to live up to the standard set by "Pulp Fiction," it seems like Tarantino retreated into to making only half-serious films like "Grindhouse" and "Kill Bill," which sort of give him an out or an excuse if they don't win the Palme d'Or and live up to "Pulp Fiction."

That's just my take. I have HUGE respect for the guy, and just wish he would make a serious film and take the whole thing seriously. Or least make a great James Bond flick, like he's been talking about for years! :w00t:

Just saw "Basterds" too. QT over his career has successfully created a genre of his own "Cinema Pulp". I love the way he creates set pieces like the bar scene, then lets them play out through his characters, always plausibly motivated with complexity and depth in rich detail. His approach to story is very literary.

I think you,re right Tom- but I also think he,s having quite a bit of fun with his films and the audience picks up on that and also enjoys it as well (most of the audience). For now, while it,s fun for everyone - keep em coming.
When and if it becomes only fun for Tarantino, the ride will either end or he will have to try something new.

Anyone love the Westwood Mann Village theatre (LA) ? They actually keep the sound loud and the screen is awesome.

Basterds was just so so. You kinda know what's happening next, and most of the middle of the set up to the finale was bland and too lengthy. I was hoping at one point I would yell, "HOLY F#$%" but it didn't happen.

Cool film though.
