  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

I, for one, just want to know when and where to send the check. :D

If it is soon, and the proposed delivery dates are soon as well, I will sell my newly acquired unopened 7D, with all of its fixings, and splurge on the new Scarlet. Or at least put a down payment on one, if that is in fact how purchases will work, which let me say, I have no idea, just saying.

For me I can push some projects back a couple of months, so its not that detrimental, to any paid gigs that I have a camera now, but if the delivery dates get a little higher than a couple of months, I'll just bite the bullet :nopity: open the 7D, take those gigs, and box that bad boy up and put it on eBay as soon as the dates begin to materialize.

I am actually really excited for this camera, some would even say anxious, but from what we are being promised no other manufacturer can even come close to this, so I believe that justifies my level of enthusiasm towards this product.

I have yet to own my first film camera, and since the 7D had its cherry popped, I still haven't and would be extremely blessed to have this be my first. So this moment in time is particularly special to me.

Even if the price rises, I'll just do what I can to make the extra dough and take a little more time to buy it, possibly even use the 7D to do that before unloading it, But regardless the Scarlet its definitely worth having. I plan on becoming a RED customer for a long time, and have finally come close to have the opportunity to do just that, so I'm willing to take it a little further (Saving $$$) , for the best they have to offer.

I'm actually kinda at peace with the purchase of the 7D, not because I will keep it, or not because I believe it can even come close to the finished product that any of the REDs' products will produce, but the hype behind it does two things for me and two things only. It creates a decent resale market for me, so just before the announcement, or even better yet, the day of Jim's announcement I can post a big FOR SALE sign, and recoup all of my funds. And lastly it allows me to practice with a camera, that allows me to have control over a lot of settings, for a fraction cost of some more expensive cameras.

So Jim I would like to formally state that I would love for you and the team to take your time, get it right, the way you yourself want it done, and I'll be seeing you at the purchase line, as soon as I'm physically capable.

P.S. I know its the wrong place for it, and I expressly apologize, but i put the request to have my tag changed and have yet to see that happen. Just wanted to let it be known, and not make it seem like I was non-compliant.

Phew! Only beaten and quartered. For a moment there I was worried about being sent to the back of the line :)

How can we purchase Scarlet in india? is there any better way, i mean direct from RED store? (Any chance to open Red store in india?) or any Dealers..? cant wait to have more 3 or 4 months after releasing so plz find out any better way to purchase system.

Waiting for the announcement at the end of the month, but until then: why does the FF35 Scarlet not have the option to record in 3k from 1-120fps like the 2/3 Scarlets? I know I should wait for the announcement for detailed specs, but for me this is a big selling point and a determining factor between a FF35 Scarlet or the big jump to an Epic.

That and whatever gives me the best stills and motion options. I'm postponing as many purchasing decisions as I can until this announcement.

Great renders and great work.

I think it's because of the horsepower. Scarlet doesn't have the hardware to process as much data with the FF sensor. If it had, it would be as expensive as an Epic, basically be an Epic.

The Scarlet can do 120fps with the smaller 2/3 chip.

Speculations are also subject to change :gnorsi:

Well, all I know is I would pay $75,000 for this set up and still be laughing at the SONY 1080P price tags... We are budgeting to spend between $150K to $200K next year with RED DIGITAL CINEMA and about the same in 2011.

And I encourage everyone else to find a way to own all you can because on Dec 21, 2012. The earth will shift on its axis and CA will be underwater... and then you are going to experience some serious shipping delays.

Meantime, if I never saw a price, Id think this system was at least $50K to $75K...

I must say, it's a real testament to the design that a sensor assembly capable of capturing 100 12 megapixel frames a second and processing 2 Gigabits of data is barely larger than the lens itself.

Isn't RED set to move to Vegas in Nov, 2012? Coincidence? Just saying...:yesnod:

Isn't RED set to move to Vegas in Nov, 2012? Coincidence? Just saying...:yesnod:

The Mayan's forsaw Red's first start up of the new breed of cameas in 2012, to further dominate the world...but instead it created a rupture in the earths crust. Yellow Stone park exploded in a sea of magma, Tsunami's coursed their way across the world. Red had distroyed the earth...but finally found a reason to shoot the event...the only event worth 28K.

HELP!!!

HELP!!!

Use your imagination here. There will be an incredible amount of possibilities to put a rig together and satisfy just about any application you can think of. I will be posting quite a few over the next few weeks until the schedule announcement later this month.

In the meantime... we'll give you some hope that the project is worth waiting for.

Jim

Mr. Jannard,
I admire the strides you've made with the RED camera. As a result, I am pressed to ask for some much needed assistance on behalf of my school, Rutgers University (Newark).

I am a senior at Rutgers (Newark) studying their TV/Doc program. Unfortunately, like most small colleges and universities that aren't known for film and video, the program is extremely underfunded. Our best cameras to date have been the Canon GL1's and 2's. While I am thankful to have something to work with at school, these cameras are too basic and a far cry from today’s standard.

As you already know, DV is out and HD's, DSLR's, and your DSMC's are changing the direction of the industry, and consequently an education in this field. But, without delving too deeply into my school’s shortcomings or the future of motion cameras, I must finally ask for your assistance. I'll leave it at that because anything would suffice and I wouldn't want anyone taking my solicitation the wrong way.

Furthermore, I do apologize if this comes across as a myopic attempt at getting the best cameras for my school, because it isn’t. If anything, it’s a way to show my appreciation for the two things that have inspired me most; the committed faculty at Rutgers Newark's fledgling TV program, and those darn movies where the little guy/girl do something great for others.

Sincerely,
Javier Rivera

I moved the edu stuff to a new thread in off topic as the thread was drifting.

Hi Jim.

Great work and very exciting. Looks like a really great step forward....

except...

It still looks to me like it's still going to be front heavy on the shoulder and tall enough to want to roll.

This is a major bug for me every time I operate RED handheld. The lens centre is above my eye on the RED. It's hard to tell from this, but I hope the lens mount is on the bottom side of the camera body, not towards the top of the body like it is now with RED.

It's my view, and maybe I'm wrong on this, that it is better to have the weight of the camera balance on the shoulder, rather than using handles to lift the weight up against the shoulder.

For to get the camera balanced, i usually feel like I need the camera positioned so that the lens mount is roughly in line with where my eyes naturally are in a standing position. The means the EVF has to end IN FRONT of the lens mount.

The current EVF is also very difficult to position so as to be low enough and forward enough to operate without neck strain ! (ET mount). My viewfinder is so far forward the lens cable starts to foul on the follow focus and the lens. Yes, this is because I have as much of the camera sitting behind me as possible, but I'd rather not shift the weight forward. Operating endurance is better when you don't have to *lift* the weight up at the front, pivoting on your shoulder. Let your body carry the camera, not your arms. It's easier to carry weight on your shoulder than to hold it out in front of you.

I even tested shooting with the body upside down just to try and get the lens centre lower as well. (too hard btw)

Right now I have an extra long bottom rail hanging out the back which the battery and drive hand off in order to try and throw more weight behind me.

Looking at the stills, it still looks like the viewfinder sits high relative to the lens centre, and it's going to struggle to go forward of the mount. It's difficult to tell where the actual lens is relative to the camera body, but I'm hoping it's as low as possible. (I didn't read all 55 pages of comments so hope it hasn't already been addressed)

The new viewfinder looks great BTW, much better than the heavy and long tube we have now !

Otherwise, very much looking forward to the next gen.
