Is everyone just waiting now, like me for all of the info to come out? I don't see many new posts. When is it all going to break? Monday? Can't wait!

Click on Jim's profile and read the BAD NEWS section. or google Japanese Tsunami - Radiation.

The entire industry just took a big hit to the supply chain... going to take months to sort out.

While there certainly will be cool stuff at NAB and all things EPIC and RED RAY etc... the Scarlet had key components affected by the Japanese catostrophe...

I mean there are still 15000 people missing. they are digging thru mud to find bodies and 250,000 are still homeless. factories were destroyed and damaged.

Id honestly look at late summer for a Scarlet announcement... if it happens sooner, awesome, but RED has their hands full trying to deliver 1000's of EPIC's
that now are missing parts and cant be delivered.

Perspective is humbling... nobody more bummed than Jim, and I believe that. Scarlet WILL ship... but its a few quarters away imho

Yes, very true on all counts. I guess I thought the final specs and perhaps the final pricing would be revealed.

I am hoping that they will still announce the specs and pricing at NAB and also start taking deposits.

pretty much nailed it right there. we will be lucky to get any new info at this point.

Could the surprise be of a Peter Jackson Signature series Epic, or Scarlet, with a special announcement with the man himself?

That'd be sick! ;)

The surprise announcement seems to be happening Tuesday afternoon

I think you are reading in something that is not necessarily accurate. This comment would only suggest that the surprise will be announced NO LATER than Tuesday afternoon but doesn't preclude an earlier announcement. In fact, I have read elsewhere that RED is planning a Monday morning press conference and I see it as highly unlikely that they would wait until the second day of NAB to make an important announcement; thereby keeping all the visitors that hit their booth before that in the dark? Not likely. :nonod:

I highly doubt any new news to be released at the Post Pit. It will more likely be a general briefing on the current state of affairs for RED Digital Cinema. That's pretty much the same thing which happened last year.

Look for the breaking news to be on Monday Morning...

In retrospect.....I meant more details would happen at the post pit. I fully expect RED to come in full force Monday with the EPIC, Scarlet, and the "surprise" or surprises.

That's what I was hoping for. Thanks for the info!

At this rate the Ipod Nano could be shooting SHD before scarlet comes out ;) .

Seriously now, I thought this thread was announcing something, a question mark in the title would have helped.

Two points I like to make...

ONE: please any one starting a thread, make a clear Title, this should indeed have QUESTION MARK!!

Too many implying threads already, and are just polluting, which can be avoided by correct wording on tittle and correct punctuation.

TWO: Japan has suffered and continues to suffer, however not only the world and its life continues, but it is our obligation to make sure that it does,
as Japan needs us more then ever before, to continue to purchase electronic devices as well as for the manufacturers and companies such RED to go on with
their business so that they can buy more of them and give Japan the much needed economical support as soon as they can re-start shipping.

On our hand here what we can do is support RED as we have, and trust that the products promised will be released as soon as they can,
and continue to support our friends in Japan by having them in our prayers and continue to spend money in their products.

On this video http://vimeo.com/22274762 Ted says that it will probably cost around $6000... what will? Just the camera, or is that the price of some kind of package, or what?

There has been some indication that there will be a Scarlet fixed package of sorts available, but what's included and whether or not the approximate cost of $6,000 is for said package is still unknown. Personally, I think that the $6,000 price tag will be for a "starter kit" - the camera, media, battery, power adapter...etc. Basically, the things you need to get started shooting right out of the box.

Sorry Wayne and Ketch, or others for the confusion, I just changed the tile. I was just interested to see if there is any news on the specs, pricing, and the surprise at the time, so I called my post like that. Again sorry for the mislead.

so far, package has been Lens & Brain, CF Module, REDmote, Sidehandle w/ 1 REDvolt, travel charger, and 5" RED pro screen

but as always things are subject to change

Dump Japanese Dependency

Dump Japanese Dependency

I am like many of you, realizing the dependency we have generated over the years on the Japanese to create a camcorder we all want and own.
I am stunned that we all are now waiting for the price of the Scarlet, supposedly an American invention, to be determined by the availability of Japanese parts. I would dump my Sony Camcorder in a minute for an American Camera invented and made in America that actually worked. And I mean made in America, not researched and conceived and tested in America and then shipped off shore for low cost labor to crunch out the parts and assemble the bits so the margin is nicely padded. American Pride is such a hollow phrase these days. I wish and hope that it will apply to the Scarlet
with the original feeling it used to generate.

I am afraid you are not going to find a whole lot of products in today's world that fit your criteria. I doubt you even go a day without eating food that was produced somewhere else. There's nothing wrong with that. We are, in the end, one world. The world is simply too complex to go backwards toward an isolationist stance.

You'll notice that even this forum is not composed of participants of only one country.
