Having an incredibly strange problem with RED CINE-X! It could very well be user error but I don't think so.

I shot outside (bright sunny day) with 5600K. All looked fantastic in camera - nothing too cool, nothing too warm. Load my card into the computer, transfer and open up & BOOM - the image looks super cool. See attachment.

BUT if I load my .R3D into Premiere Pro CC - it's absolutely spot on in terms of white balance...(see attachment)

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

If you have a personal web server people do that, or you can put it on dropbox or something similar.

It looks fine here in RCX 22.

I'm not an RCX expert by any means but is it possible that you inadvertently made a color temp change in your Red Cine project but have not saved the RMD? That might explain why Premiere is not seeing the change.

Check your RCX preferences. Is "Automatically Save RMD Files" selected? I suspect it is not. In this case, that would be a good thing. ;-)

IN terms of Color temp looks pretty cool on the image RCX BETA BUILD 23) but the Histogram looks balanced between all three channels.

Are you on a beta build of RCX? That might be what is doing it as they are optimizing it for Dragon footage now.

Possibly. I downloaded it straight from the downloads section at RED.

It also looks very cool in RED PLAYER as well.

It sounds then, as if Premiere is not referencing the most current RMD. Who is well versed in Premiere data management? I'm not.

The snapshot in your Dropbox, it was just made in RCX from footage that looks cool in RCX and Red Player? Is that right?

I haven't downloaded the clip but did you import it into Premiere and then open it in RCP and change the white balance or anything? If any change to the RMD was made after the clip was imported into Premiere you will need to go to the source settings box and say "reload from RMD" to force Premiere to update the clip.

No, it's Premiere that looks correct right out of the camera - and RED Cine-X and Player that look ultra cool.

That is exactly how I came to this latest hypothesis. Premiere is reading the camera original file whose settings are correct, but in RCX that setting was changed. RCX and Red player are reading one settings file, and Premiere is reading another. This has been a problem with FCP media management and maybe your trouble is similar. If it is, Bob Gundu should be helpful to you. He is conversant in this and i think he is familiar with Premiere.

This is why I asked about the file you posted. It came from RCX, where it looks blue to you or did you somehow export it from Premiere? Pardon my ignorance RE: Premiere. I haven't touched it since v4 :-)

In your RCX Looks: Image pane, what color temp is set? Mine shows 5600

Check your kelvins and tint in premiere, set the same in red cine.. think you accidentally changed the value in RCXP or such.

Temporary fix!

It seems to be a RED Cine-X bug. I reinstalled an older version of RED Cine-X and all is well - it went back to the in camera colors.

RED needs to know about this! This may not matter but just for reference I shot: EPIC-X, 128GB SSD, 8:1, 5K HD & edited on: Apple MacPro (Mid-2010) 12-core, 16GB, ATI 5770, Mavericks

For a full and complete wipe of all RED Products on my mac - does anyone know (besides the application folder) where associated files are...(i.e. System/Library..etc.). I might try the newest RED CINE-X again if I can wipe everything off.

Thanks again guys!

Best,
Alex

There is a special name for that kind of bug. They call it a Pebkac error. :-)
