  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

In development...

I also share these questions and what kind of market the RED DSLR would be targeted at. If it's a professional DSLR (which I wouldn't doubt, but you can never be 100% sure) with a 'professional price tag' in the thousands count me out =/ Afraid college is going to rob me of all my cash before I can even dream of a RED DSLR in my hands

Are you familiar with RED pricing policy?

It's basically what the competition offers divided by 5.

:bleh:

hopefully my red one will still be worth its value after all this..

I've been thinking about this too while I prepare to (hopefully) get a RED ONE, myself.

I can't imagine the long term plans for the ONE include letting the camera that started it all fall into the shadow of Epic or other competing cameras.

Epic will surely be that, but with REDs upgrade policy being world class, I imagine things will continue to improve. I don't see Jim or the rest of the team letting the ONE fade away as the new things come out.

I felt like putting a clown icon at the end of this. :clown2:

If there is an upgrade path for REDOne all the way to Montsro that means a whole lot of board and architecture swap no?
i thought the issue with where the REDOne topped out was not only the current sensor but also the throughput load and where it bottlenecked.
im sure im wrong but id love a little info about the "overhaul" expected on the cam for the biggest upgrade.

Regardless, the fact that its even an option and all the other development given to the owner for free is astounding and you guys should be well proud every morning when you wake up...that is if you guys even sleep!

im beginning to think you named it RED because you guys are vampires.

Well, If i stand correct, the Red path to mostro, is trough Epic.
Anyway, I think it would be the same cost upgrading to Mostro from red than, upgrading a Red to Epic`s Mostro!

Anyone want to give a real-world example of a paying project where it was critical for them to have 4K instead of 4:4:4 1080P?

I love that I can even post in response to this (thanks to RED), but we had a rental for a project recently that was a behind the scenes 10 minute segment for an IMAX movie that plays with the IMAX feature so so that it adds up to the required 40 minute minimum. So 4k was crucial.

Come one Bruce, you know you love to be able to tell clients that you can shoot 4.5x 1080P.

Okay, for IMAX you have me there ;) 2K stuff blown up to IMAX does look soft of course.

4.5x the detail of 4:4:4 1080P?

I don't say that because I don't like to misinform folks. Next thing they might expect me to do a 4.5x blowup on a shot...

Ok, so with a 3.2k image from the 4k bayer image, I guess technically you're at about 3x a 4:4:4 1080P image.

Even if it was only 2x, that's basically the jump from 720p to 1080p, it's better.

I can see some of your frustration with the lack of support, but soon the frustration will be a thing of the past.

"and another camera aimed squarely at the DSLR market"

aimed at..does not mean it'll be a DSLR (emphasis on R). i'd be surprised to see a reflex mirror..then again i've been surprised by red alot. :sorcerer:

Hi,

A beamsplitter would give you the "R".

Mirrors are so last century.... with small hi-res displays we don't need mirrors anymore.

i wouldn't want to loose sensitivity on my D3 with a beamsplitter nor would i want a darker viewfinder..and definitely i would not want an electronic viewfinder on it. anyway..what do i know what red is up to..truly exciting times!

Hi,

To be honest 1/3 of a stop is hardly a big issue in the real world.
