The thermonuclear war would not exists in reality

or there is no such thing like a thermonuclear war.

It is about a propaganda terminology

because if it's about thermonuclear war that is a thing about that

actually nobody could survive, there is no long fight between the

parities involved so there is no war in common thinking way,

all parties are more or less death after that fight.

It's about overall destruction and even if you could sit with your

RED camera in a deepest build world's bunker you are to face your death soon.

It really depends at what altitude the warhead is detonated at..

If the warhead is strategically detonated at a high altitude (say on an airliner) the nuclear blast will use the curvature of the earths atmosphere as a reflective concave lens, concentrating gamma rays back to earth over a wide geographical area, cooking many electronics. A ground detonation however, may not yield the same effect because of terrain disruption. Gamma rays, kind of like radio waves, need to be emitted from a high point to have far reaching effectiveness.
