  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

They still are promoting their IMS for RED without one word about the warranty issue. Not a good style at all, I would say. But again, they are thinking they just can do it as they used to do it all the years before costumers could communicate to each other throw the internet…

Wake up guys, that’s not how your are going to win the game…

You know what Burger.. I am starting to think that it might not be so "innocent" that they do not mention the warranty implications.

At any rate.. I have begun talking to someone from there.. so we will see how it goes. I am pretty excited about alesniak's mount though right now.. so we will give Alesniak priority with our engineers for testing.

So you saying that alesniak's mount can be pt on an IMS ?

Just hoping this one day will be possible ?

It's definitely possible.

Can you imagine:

You shoot with RED 50-150mm T3 ZOOM then you would like to have more to zoom,

then you swap your RED lens and then swap Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

using Alesniak EF or Birger EF.

What a wonderful wold.

But all that you could do it with IMS for RED.

Sanjin, the IMS sales pitch is fine but I think you made your point about 1000 IMS posts ago.

Arian,

maybe you are right,

but I would say it's not about IMS sales it's more about RED users that can make their daily life with RED even more easy and exiting.

Also it's a bit about of all RED cameras systems, that means if the future RED cameras (EPIC,...) also get IMS that could be definitely a "killer"

camera system that for the competitors like Panavision Genesis, Sony F35, Arri D-21 and Dalsa Origin II may just be a dream.

That maybe your point of view but there are many RED users who bought the camera with only the intention of using a PL mount and don't want the added inaccuracies of multiple combined mounts. Saying 'All red users want this' is presumptuous. Frankly I have no intention of using a nikon or canon mount because it's not appropriate for the work I do.

And no, I don't want IMS on EPIC. I want a rock solid dedicated PL mount that's the best it can be. Not a hack to use multiple still camera mounts.

P&S quality is not so great either. It's very inconsistent and hit or mis even though it's supposed to 'german engineered'.

Ariana,

I'm asking myself what are your intentions here at this tread too:

1. I didn't say that all RED users should use IMS, I always say the RED user who want to...

2. Anyway and anyhow you'll get PL mount on EPIC, no doubs.

I was always talking about a sort of product variants.

It should be like with cars or computers. You could make a sort of build to order.

That means in the case of Ariana's build to order>>mount>>PL only>>OK, no problem>>> proceed to order...

3. P+S Technik quality, I do not know so much because I use just one IMS, if I have a problem with particular

mount I solve that easy and fast directly with tem. Its customer service is very good.

4. A myth about German Engineering (!?), in today's world nobody's perfect, too much products that parts are made worldwide.

About a product control (German , Sweden, American, Japanese or Chinese) I do not know either.

I always quote a story about my new TAG Heuer men's watch Carrera that broke after a couple of weeks (Swiss Made) :) .

Again, nobody's perfect.

if Alesniak's mount is put on a IMS mount and then that put on a RED mount right now, it would void your warranty.

Alesniak's mount does not require removal of PL turret, which is why we like it so much... and we will give him our full support.

If you guys are trying to push him to make it for the IMS mount instead, that great, and certainly his decision, but he will loose our support, because we do not approve of what the IMS is doing at this point.

My point here is that almost every post of yours is pushing IMS to the point of nausea. We all get it. Let Red and P&S work it out without the histrionics from users.

I agree with Ariana.

As for the complaints of a private mail that I posted. Sometimes you have to start a fire under people to get them to move. This email was from a professional who ought to act professional. I assume he was acting professional and that is why I posted it.
It is information that lets people know what is going on.

If someone sent me a private that contained insulting information and heresay from a third party of course that would never be posted.

Hmmm, if anyone wants to say anything let it be the person who sent me the private mail and only him.

The writing is on the wall, it's not going to happen. Don't kid yourself, I am not being a pessimist I am being a realist. If I was a pessimist I wouldn't own a Red and I wouldn't be waiting for a Birger Mount.

These two company's are highly evolved, Red and P&S. If they wanted it to happen it would've already.

With Jarred's posts and the RED's "big man" and no posts from P&S....

What does this say? Obvious isn't it?
I am not saying who, but one company is acting like they don't need to communicate.

I don't care what is said about a company, this is no place for hurt feelings, "no girly men" aloud. If you want to know what I am talking about go and visit the Birger thread. Erik has been slammed big time and he still continues to post.

This thread is a bit out of control.

Rather then talk about whether IMS is a good idea, who wants it, who doesn't, and who should make mods for it, can we focus on the original point which is AT THE MOMENT WE CAN'T USE IT WITHOUT LOSING THE WARRANTY AND UPGRADE OPTIONS.

In my opinion everything else is a mute point.

Either P&S are going to resume contact and work this out or they aren't.

Until then, anything else is a distraction.

I know this is a hot topic and everyone has an opinion about what will make it worth it or not, but let's focus on the fundamental problem.

Jim

Jim I agree with you. If someone has the ability to sway or influence P&S, step up and take a shot. Recalls are not a new thing for manufactures. They could recall the mounts already manufactured and make the modifications.

Does anyone really know for sure if Red has said,
"modify it this way and we will pass it"
or, has Red said,
"it doesn't matter how you modify the existing mount, you have to do a basic redesign."?

We are here because we are on your side. We are you. We tell you what we are doing because it is healthy. We are not the typical company that has a strategy to become a money making machine at the expense of our customers. We are a company who's sole purpose is to make the best stuff. The stuff the other guys can't afford to make because it is counter-productive to the "business model". I really believe we are different. We LOVE doing this stuff. I just spent the weekend working with Jarred and Matt on the program. We don't do this for "overtime". That is a hard combination to compete with.

Jim

This is true, right? So when do we get some kind of interchangeable mount system for the RED ONE?… A lot of RED users really asking and waiting for this to happened…

We need it... You need it… right?

Jarred has stated multiple times that RED had told P+S the changes that would be necessary to get the mount certified. RED has not received a new mount from P+S since then, and P+S' communication is as best spotty...

I've been in conatct with Aki this weekend and he told me he is speaking with Red directly now. I hope they will find a solution soon.

Just for the record to keep this thread complete:

"If it doesn,t work out with IMS would Red develop a similar system?"
if it doesnt work out, I guess there really is no other choice unless someone else (with a little more time) brings one to the market :)

... there is an opportunity here for some smart guys out there just itching for something to do :)

That "best for the customer" attitude is why we pick and choose who we approve and work with.. its not ALWAYS just a technical decision.... attitude is important in that decision, if a company is "hard" to work with at the company to company level to get a product rolling when at that point the 3rd party company has the most motivation, I question what happens when random customers start having problems...

We sometimes like the "little guy" more because of this.. customer service usually is alot better. Doug and the RED-Nikon mounts, Birger and his mounts, Element Technica, and hopefully I can momentarily have the audacity and say RED ourselves.... are all tried and true examples of this.

Is there an advantage between Leica M and Leica R lenses on the IMS mount or using a Leica to EF convertor for Birger or Alenisac mounts.

thanks for any info.

I think getting an Alesniak dumb EF mount to use Leica glass on it via a good quality Leica R to EF adapter would be a "compromise" worth exploring. The money you saved could go towards the purchase of a Viewfactor Impero and Inclino solution. And since the Alesniak mount would give you the ability to adjust back focus without much ado (through the RED OEM mount collar), you'd be sitting pretty.

No? Perhaps? Maybe?
