  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

It's good to see Jim involved in this discussion.
maybe yes maybe not.. jannard (king) is not the same than jarred (prince).. did anyone ever wonder if both are interested to see P+S TECHNIK increasing their own bank account balance at red expenses?.. the only doubt is if red will ever release any thing such as IMS..

go figure if jannard would ever hire me instead corrado.. do you think so?.. only as april 1st joke.. jannard is not a joker.. just the best player.

Horrible thoughts

Horrible thoughts

There are over 300 posts, spanning months, on the IMS issue...
Sounds a bit surprising to think and state that P+S, that has been converting hundreds of Arri cameras both mechanically and electronically and making so many fine and revolutionary pieces of professional gear for years, can not make well a relatively simple product like the IMS mount... which, by the way, they are already installing in other cameras including their own 2k SI, and I think the new Ikonoskop too... that they wouldn´t take into account the temperature issue or the i/pin issue...
Birger, Long Valley, which are comparatively smaller shops, get Red approval... let´s hope it´s not a matter of primitive American nationalism, or jealousy about letting a somewhat competing European company sell parts for Red cameras... no, no, no... how dare can I think such an obstruse thing... go away, dissapear, get lost, horrible thoughts!
Guido (recovering from nightmare from distant South America)

I've seen no obstruction against some other companies by red in the past,
so even because ps has the si-2k, who could be competitive in some way to the red program, i see they should fix this issue....

I think red is been honest enough and been giving a lot of them out there the chance to come up with ideas and stuff ...and find sollutions

We have been very clear to P+S what they need to do, and what the problem is. If we have to fix it for them, we may as well make one ourselves.

Jim

Thanks Jim for stepping in this discussion…

Let us know if you really make your own IMS – For us customers that would be just fine.

On the other hand could you verify once again that the last attempts by Aki and P&S haven’t improved the situation at leas a bit…

For me it seems clear that P&S hasn’t been that communicative as they have should have been… With Aki as the new seals mangers there is a new chance now for that to change…

Thanks a lot

Jarred has previously stated that one of the problems was how the IMS transfers heat - especially since the RED generates quite a bit of it on its front end. Another is how it handles the i-Cable.

P+S seems to claim that they have resolved these problems with a re-design. Either they have not sent a new mount to RED, or RED simply disagrees in their conclusion. Either way the buck stops (for now) with P+S. Here I take it as a positive sign, that P+S are now officially aware of this thread.

As ET shows, RED can be very supportive of third party suppliers, if they are pro-actively playing ball. And as Birger has shown, RED can also forgive past mistakes and move on - for the benefit of the rest of us.

Though I would really, really, really like the IMS+RED to succeed, I am not holding my breath for now.

Thanks Martin for moderating this thread again and again in such a fine manner…

I truly am surprised buy the surprise people have about the voided warranty... did anyone REALLY think that we would accept cameras back with voided warranties?

Maybe someone can help me understand?

Given that many cameras will be out of warranty before Epic exists, how do you void a warranty that no longer exists on an upgrade to a camera that doesn't exist yet? After the warranty is finished, usually, the rules of the relationship no longer apply. Applying the rules of warranty in this time (post warranty) would be like the analogy of being told that you are not allowed to sleep around after a relationship breaks up, just in case you get back together.

This period of time-post warranty and pre-Epic upgrade will probably need to be retitled (something other than warranty), complete with stipulations from Red as to what is acceptable and what is not, prior to an upgrade.

Erik, looking forward to that.

If you need more help about ... let me know and I'm available for that.

Aki has gone dark… no communication with RED – Hmm bad…..

If it doesnt work out with IMS would Red develop a similar system?
if it doesnt work out, I guess there really is no other choice unless someone else (with a little more time) brings one to the market :)

Jarred, so let’s push this thing a bit…
What has the manufacture to know to step-in in this process of developing an IMS for the RED if someone would start new form the scratch?(Would be easier of cause if RED would produce its own mount… would also be the fastest thing I guess . Come on, why not produce it fast so we have it in three weeks or so… :))

Under what kind of circumstances it would be OK to remove the collimation mount?

-It has to be a place for the i pin cable…

-There has to be a way to let the heat out of the front of the RED body.

That’s it? What else do I need to know to interest someone to work on this?

Basically we just need a IMS System for Canon EOS and Pl mount. All other mount options are not hard to accomplish because most other mounts can be adopted to Canon EOS anyway.

If Erik could develop a own IMS system for just mounting his smart EOS mount and a PL mount to the RED than no P&S technique is needed….

Erik you really should proof this possibility… Thanks…

Let's not jump to conclusions. Just because RED has such an open communication culture and gives their employees the right to openly communicate with their customers, does not mean that this is now standard practice in all companies. I wish it was, but do let us give Aki the benefit of the doubt. Maybe Aki has a person or a committee he has to report to, and get all communication greenlit?

Most companies are simply not used to this open, near real time form of communicating directly with their critical, demanding, emotional customers.

The fact that Aki has indeed posted here shows that P+S is at least trying to change for the better.

Thanks Martin.

Very good points.

You got it…
I guess we will not hear any think from them soon… they have a totally different culture of communicating and firm policy, different company structures and so on.…
They have been in cine business for a long time, they like to be more in touch with the established crews… they are not used to communicate through the Internet and public forums… to many new guys out there they don’t know how to talk to…

Don’t get me wrong… Don’t want jump to conclusions but let’s keep up the pressure…

Today I looked at their website again... (see attachment)

They still are promoting their IMS for RED without one word about the warranty issue. Not a good style at all, I would say. But again, they are thinking they just can do it as they used to do it all the years before costumers could communicate to each other throw the internet…

Wake up guys, that’s not how your are going to win the game…

Most companies aren't as vocal nor open as we are... and on some days, I sure can understand why. But most days I can't imagine it being any other way.. its way more fun this way.

Expired vs. Voided Warranty

Expired vs. Voided Warranty

Many cameras will be out of warranty by the time they can upgrade to EPIC, so thats why people are surprised.

Jim has stated that you don't need to be the original owner to upgrade, selling the camera also voids the warranty, am I missing something?

There's indeed one thing too what makes me think:
If warranty is expired it is gone.
How can it void then if there is none ?

Most companies aren't as vocal nor open as we are... and on some days, I sure can understand why. But most days I can't imagine it being any other way.. its way more fun this way.

I do appreciate the openness as everyone else, no question. But it raises questions like mine above, sometimes....

Selling the camera cancels the original warranty, it doesn't void the warranty. If you buy a used RED, the warranty is cancelled but you can pay for the warranty re-certification.

to Void the warranty you gotta intentionally fuck with the camera..

Make sense?
